WHOOPS!!

Sometimes things don't always go as planned. Post pictures and stories of your best...or worst mishaps here.
Hello all. As the member who this phrase was coined after, I believe we have enough members now to start making an actual board and sub-division of Serious Explorations. Therefore, I must lay down a few rules for the nominations and elections. 1. Anybody can be nominated that is a member of the roll over posse. 2. As a member though, consideration for election must be based on a few simple factors. 2a. Stupidity-Ie, getting hammered and trying to do doughnuts in a wash. Who was that? 2b. Ammount-Ie, number of times that any one person has had at least two wheels, of the same side of the vehicle, off the ground for more than, oh let's say 30 seconds. 2c. Dedication/Damage-Ie. The amount of damage sustained to the...
Here’s my problem. Stupid me went 4x4 in my STOCK!!! Explorer and got stuck in a swamp kind of creek thing. I don't really know what is but basically flooded grass. Its winter, about -13c and about 5 in of snow. So I broke through the ground and the wheels are in ruts and spinning freely. Ground level is the frame. How do I get out? What I have available to me is a Kubota L2800 (Ruffly the same weight if not alittle heavier then the truck) with plow and Front end loader. I have a 3/4 ton come along and a 2 ton hoist. Lots of chain, no straps. I am a one man show with no help. I have tried hooking a chain to the frame and the tractor and pulled from behind the truck and got nothing but spinning tires. I have tried lowering the...
I'm having a problem with my 99 Explorer 4.0L SOHC, misfire in cylinder 1 p0301 and can't seem to figure out the problem. Truck has 154k and a rough idle and bad acceleration. I've checked and tried everything I can think of so I looking for a little help here. Ignition system seems to be okay. It has new motorcraft plugs gap to spec, new wires ohm out to spec, and a new coil pack also ohm out to spec. I've also tried swaping plugs from different cylinders, no change. I've checked the compression on a few of the cylinders, all are within 10psi of each other. Cylinder 1 leakdown test passed. Fuel system seems to be working. Injectors ohm out to spec and are all close in ohms. I've swapped injectors 1 and 2 no change. I'm getting...

I have not one, but 2, very bizzare stories to share. Well, as you all know, the Pats won the Superbowl. Because I live on campus Northeastern University in the center of Boston, I saw first hand the repercutions that meant to us Bostonians. Right after the game, we all dashed out of our apartments and various parties in joy. This being our first victory, and one of the best games of all time, things got rowdy very quickly. Within minutes a crowd of at least 5000 blocked of the street I lived on. People stood on cars, girls flashed, and the chants ranged from "P-A-T-S, pats, pats, pats" to "Flip the car, flip the car." And they did just that. The first car was a Toyota Celica, badly caved in because of about 10 people who...
Factory dust shields have single cooling vent holes that are located next to the tie rod ends. First pic shows brand new Moog ES3667 outer tie rods with square shaped "grease relief" valves on the bottom. Moog pre installed the dust boots with no regard to valve position. Second pic shows grease contacting the inner rotor with less than 1/4" clearance. Besides rupturing, this is another reason dust boots should never be overfilled. As with lower and upper ball joints, position the valves facing inboard towards the engine.
I need help! Bought a 98 explorer automatic with auto 4x4. The one with the auto, 4x4 high, 4x4 low switch on the dash. I've put about 1200 miles on it since I got it, has 121000 overall. Anyway thought I would try the 4x4 out today and its stuck in 4x4 low. It went into both high and low with no problem, showed it on the dash. Went to take it back to auto, dash indacator lights went out so I figured every thing was fine but then thex4 lights for both high and low started flashing at the same time for five or six flashes then the they go out. I'm still in low cause I can feel it. What are some possible problems? Thanks gutterrat
Sort of a previous owner/shop whoops. Supposedly the tranny in the Explorer I just bought had just been rebuilt. It felt pretty good except for what I think is a torque converter shudder at certain speeds and load conditions. So I figured I'd change the fluid and filter out. I'm pretty sure this is not ideal for the filter. Not sure if this could be causing any problems, but whatever tech thought this was "good enough" should be fired (pictures attached). The whole filter is warped, has a long crack in it, and the area around the retaining bolt is destroyed. Didn't find any plastic in the pan so hopefully it's in the filter. Any tranny experts know if this damage could be causing my trans issues, perhaps causing low line pressure?
I've had my doubts about wheter or not a safari bar would help in a collision.guess what it did . i dont know how many of you guys have mud terrain tires but add those ,rain, and abs that works when it feels like it and you got a problem on your hands. Not to mention not paying attention to the 2006 jetta stopped at a green light. I hit the vw between 15-20 mph.I smoked his bumper,I didnt even break my driving lights. sorry i dont have a pic of his car. Im pretty sure he did not have insurance because he kept telling the cops not to worry about it . they did not even file a report.good for me bad for him.
Welcome to the new Whoops forum! You've been asking for it, so here it is. Enjoy! And to get this new forum started here is my latest "WHOOPS". We got to camp up on this nice rock formation, ate then headed out for some wheeling. It was a lot of fun, rock crawling, water crossing, etc. All went well until we got to the biggest water crossing. Some Jeeps we knew went first and Rod was next. He got almost there and he got stuck, in the water, and the water was up to the windows almost. He tried to get out but only dug himself deeper in the sand. Then his engine died. We pulled him out and asset the damage. The engine ran for awhile but then it quit I mean the seats were underwater at one point, it was sort of bad. So we towed...
I just replaced a fuel pump for a 91 Eddie Bauer Explorer 4x4.Everything went as planned but I noticed the replacement pump had a different float. The old pump had a round float and the new pump was identical except for the float was more of a flat type float. After I filled the tank with 19 gallons of gas the gauge only shows 1/2 tank.Anyone know why this is?This pump is suppose to be a replacement for the pump I had.everything fit exactly.Anyone have an answer or had the same problem?
