Ok maybe is wasn't as bad but I almost poop my self ! I bought a 1999 explorer last week , the lady failed to tell me that the driver door can't be open with the key ! so I locked all doors and over the weekend I wanted to work on it and the key would not turn to open the doors so I'm like I'll go to the back well it didn't unlocked the door (why I'm not sure yet ) so I walked to the passenger and to my horror the key didn't turn ! so I was ok so what now ! break a window ! nope I wiggle the key and whala ! it unlocked !! so I guess when you buy a car make sure the key works on all key hole :-) btw I'll be fixing the lock on the driver door :-)
So over a year ago, replaced front and rear timing chains and tensioners in my 98' Explorer. Learned a lot during the process, including how lucky I am to still have fingers. (If anyone is curious, I can go into detail later). She's been running great for about 15,000 miles and then, after leaving work one day, the engine stalled on service road. Through tons of troubleshooting and trying to deny the horrible pit in my stomach, it turns out one of the cams jumped time. How exactly? Not sure until I get the heads pulled off, but I took a scope to cylinder #6 and saw this: That's on the driver's side of the engine. Here's the passenger side cylinder #2 : I've got my fingers crossed that only the driver's-side cam...
Doing routine maintenance under the hood. This is the dual coolant and washer fluid reservoir used on many Explorers and Rangers. Had just enough washer fluid to fill to the brim with a slight overflow. Proceeded to close the cover and hit it firmly with my palm. No problem right? Next morning i found a puddle under the passenger side. Lifted the hood and found the washer tank half full. Disconnected the wire connector and removed the pump and rubber tank seal/filter without any visible issues. Flushed the tank, reinstalled the pump, and refilled with water. Using a small hand mirror and flashlight saw leaking fluid. Replaced with a Trico aftermarket pump and no leaks. My suspicion is the tight fitting cap trapped air and blew the...
Serious question, and thought I would try again... Basically 2015 Ford Explorer Sport VS Commercial Garage Door = Broken Antenna. Was able to drill out the bolt piece from the pigtail stuck in the base, but it appears that the base now has a small gap in the front where the roof meets the antenna base. My question is: Is there another gasket inside the antenna base where the base bolts to the roof, OR is water free to leak inside my car? I am guessing the heavy pressure on the antenna (that caused the antenna to snap) caused the roof metal to warp a bit. That I don't care about, but a leaky roof would be no good. I cannot find ANYWHERE any sort of pic on how the antenna mounts to the car. I can find lots of pictures...
As I was pulling into the parking garage at Georgia State today I turned my lights on to see. When I parked, I went to turn them off, and to my surprise the knob snapped off in my hand, leaving the rotary switch pushed into the dashboard and inaccessible. Now this was a problem, seeing how I needed to turn the lights off, so I did some quick thinking and remembered I had some pliers in the cargo pocket in the back. Thankfully I was able to reach in there and turn the switch to turn the lights off. My question: Is there any way to remount the switch and reattach the knob without disassembling the dashboard? The switch had been loose for quite some time and had a lot of play in it prior to this. I'm assuming that means the...
So Zukman goes out to the garage to move the under-construction Zuk over to make room for the Explorer. The zuk has no wheels on it it sits on jacksrands waiting for the funds to complete the total suspension swap. He carefully bolts in the rear axle to give him a jacking point to lower the stands. I am sitting in the house on the forum, suddenly I hear BOOM ,CRASH. At the very same time the chat goes down. I go racing as fast as I can(think turtle crawl) to see what fell. When I get to the garage all I see is my cute little Suki laying on her side, and Norm looking bewildered. Now we have a zuk on her side in the garage with no wheels, just axles. (the full sized axles saved the truck. Norm pull the axles and springs off both...
 So I need your help Ford Explorer Forum... I have a 2015 Ford Explorer Sport. The other day when I was pulling into my work's parking garage the door closed accidentally on my vehicle. It hit the roof rails 2 feet from the back of the car, and as I drove forward (trying to get out of the way) the antenna snapped off the base. The dealer said that he was going to need to take down the header and replace the whole thing if I could not get the base screw out, but I was able to extract the piece of antenna screw still stuck in the base with a reverse thread drill. Now for my question... I was able to replace the antenna mast, but it appears that the base of the antenna is not 100% tight to the roof. Perhaps it was always...
So I am driving to work Wed and it had just rained pretty hard but was clearing, streets still wet and slick. City streets, where I am in the right lane with another car in the left lane, and a Shelby Cobra 427 behind him. The guy to my left eases over into the far left lane leaving the middle lane open. The guy in the Cobra decides to pull between us and get >VERY RAPIDLY< ahead of us. I'm thinking.. "Hey, this is cool. Don't get to see a Cobra every day." Well, just as he is between us he drops it into 2nd from 3rd I guess, and screeches ahead. You guessed it - he breaks the rear loose on wet concrete and look out sister!! Rear end swerves into the left lane in front of the car in the far left lane and he is almost...
I wanted to share my story in hopes of saving someone else the trouble we had. While driving to the beach (200 miles from home) my gas meter showed 12 miles. This car has always been extremely accurate. I was pulling off the exit to get gas and I lost the gas pedal and began to lose speed. My loss of oil pressure light started flashing in red and the oil light came on. My first thought was the oil change we had the evening before we left on our trip. The car gentle glides to a stop and I turned it off. We checked the oil, again expecting them to have left the filter loose or something but it's perfectly fine. No sign of a leak...and dip stick reads full. It has the push button start...it will not do anything. We unhook the...
Hello, so as the title states I had to install a new rack. Mine was leaking, so I added stop leak to make it last a couple more months. As always, it worked for a month or so, and came back with a vengeance. I went from 1 bottle of fluid a month before the stop leak, to 1 a week. Eventually I couldn't drive to and from work without adding a bottle of steering fluid. Time for a new rack. I order the rack from NAPA. Everything is looking good. I buy a couple tools I'm missing for the steering lines, etc. I can't get the old rack out due to passenger side bushing at the bottom. I take a sawzall and cut it and it comes out. Same issue going in with the new one, except I messed around with it until I could get it past that point. I could...
so today I set out to change my rear exhaust section as my muffler had blew. had a bit of trouble getting it off so I took it to a shop. They removed the old exhaust but then couldn't get the new one on so after paying £20 to have the old one removed, I now have had to take it to a second garage to have the new one put in place... what a load of bs....
No destruction, sorry, but i had to admit by moment of boneheadery. I just loaded up the X with a bunch of cardboard boxes and such to go to recycling, hit the lock button inside the hatch, and closed it. ..sept it didnt close properly. No biggie... unlock the drivers door (hatch key lock is screwey) and hit the power lock button. Hmm... hatch won't open. Tried pressing it closed and turning the handle, no love. tried pulling and turning.... nope. Tried kicking it at one point... no love. Spent about ten minutes sweating, swearing, and being generally unhappy. ... then realized i'd hit "lock" instead of "unlock" on the power lock switch. :shifty_ey
Just bought a 2014 Polaris Sportsman, had it for 9 hours and took her out after dinner for a run after dark. I figured I was out on my lake, knew it well, what could it hurt?? Well, I ran into a soft area with a spring......18" of slush. -12°. Took 2 days of prying and lifting to get her out. When I hit the slush, both front 1/2 shafts sheered, so I lost my 4wd. I pulled her in Reverse to the boat landing with my snowmobile.
