alright, i was told by a friend that sport explorers are originally 2" higher than normal sploders. is this true? and if so would that mean that with 2" lift i should fit 33s?

on a 99 explorer, the chart says I can run 31X10.50X15 on a 15X8 rim, I have a ?, my explorer has 16 inch rims so IM guessing it came with the bigger tire package, what would be the biggest tire without any trimming? No lifts, I would like to raise it a little though but cant afford alot for a lift kit, any suggestions? Thanks

Some people have fit a 32 11.5 with no trim, with a 16" rim you're most likely going to be buying a metric tire, you will be able to fit a 265/75/16 which is almost basically a 32 10.5 16. i test fitted a set of toyo open country mt's that were that size on my 98, just because you had a bigger tire stock doesnt increase the stock tire clearance, it just means you had a bigger tire to start with.

ya you're going to need to trim a bit i'm sure. pry not as much as you'd think though. but it could require alot. if i have any advice though do do any more tt with it. GO FOR IT !! just trim what you have to. .. if you have to.

I'm picking up a new '11 Ranger tomorrow (to replace the '99 that's been my trusted friend since it rolled off the assembly line) and I'm trying to figure out if I need to do anything to the truck if I put the 265/75/R16's on it from my '99? The dealership doesn't seem to know, which is a little disconcerting. Can anybody help?

So, with a little digging and a few words with the right people I answered my own question and thought I'd post it here so it might help someone else. In order to install 265/75/R16 tires on a stock 2011 4x4 chassis the following things need to be done:

1) Computer recalibrated to account for change in tire diameter/ rotational speed.
2) Tire pressure monitoring system (if equipped) must be recalibrated.
3) Alignment.

Cost: Approximately $300

If all of these things are done properly I was assured that the factory warranty would not be voided...but then they may have just been trying to sell me a truck (which they successfully accomplished). YMMV and if they are doing the service, get it in writing.

I feel like some where some one needs to add what gearing would be good with tire size an lift I have a feeling some people read this get the lift throw 35s on and wonder why there truck dosent move when it has 3.27 gears lol

some of this is not necessarily true... i have a 1993 XLT Limited with 32x11.50 BFG A/Ts with no lift did not have to trim and zero rub?

I agree to an extent. Gearing is such an opinion though. For instance I'm running 29x10.5 TSLs and plan on going 4.10s just due to the cheap factor. If I had the money I'd go 4.88s. mathemastically the calculators aren't worth a crap in my mind either they don't factor in added wind resistance nor more tire resistance from larger cleats and wider surface area. I'd always go the next size up from wwhat the calculators say. if it wants you to have 4.10s I'd go 4.56s, if it wants you to have 4.88s I'd go 5.13

Well being the newbie that i am i figured id start this out right.... Im currently deployed to iraq so when i have some down time i tend to surf the web alot, what im looking for, for my 04, 2 wheel drive (ya i know) stock explorer is an agressive set of tires to go with some crager soft 8 rims. i wanna try and get a wide set of tires or maybe spacers if that possible to try and help this thing out cause right now she looks about as tough as a mini van... thanks for the help!

Im probably going to be lynched... but...

I have a set of re-treads. Company is treadwright. Model is guard dog. I love em. Have around 6000 miles on em and i cant see any signs of wear. I also have 2" wheel spacers. granted im up 5.5" so i needed the extra push to the outside but i love the stance they give me.
