And here we have a picture of the explorer in it's natural habitat

2002 4x4 XLT
Made a few mods to improve appearance, and others for camping. I'm not a super flashy mod kinda guy.
Sorry the pictures are blurry, there is sand behind the lens on my phone.

- swapped the old wheels out for newer model explorer wheels (found them on Craigslist for $150!)
IMG_3275_zpsihdqyjyt.jpg

- swapped the 3rd gen mirrors for 4th gen mirrors (ebay $100)
IMG_3268_zpsj3sfg6nw.jpg

- added Rola Roof Rack for storage and mounted/wired 2 LED spots ($180 + $50)
IMG_3270_zpsaafggh9t.jpg

- 4x4 emblems are from eBay, but it looks almost stock. ($4?)
IMG_3269_zps2jeoyvz3.jpg

- seats folded down, with a fitness mat laid over top (so that carpeting doesn't absorb water/mud/dirt/dog smell) (used sporting goods store $20) Loaded up and ready to go with my best pal, Rutledge. If I can't find a place to set up my tent/cot/hammock then I can throw everything on the roof rack and sleep inside the truck. It's got enough room for the both of us.

IMG_3273_zpsqubx5llk.jpg

- installed a DoubleDin touch screen Nav system/ DVD player (pulled from my old truck)

I plan on swapping the 4th gen tail lights in. I've already got them, but haven't gotten around to figuring out how to rewire them.

The newer model wheels and the 4th gen mirrors by far made the most impact on making this look newer than a 2002.

Took the running boards off. Didn't mind them before, but now that they're off, I'm happy :D

I bought those same rear flush mounted lights to install on mine. I probably should have checked before purchasing them, but my rear steel bumper is in the way behind the plastic which won't allow the light to fit if I were to cut the openings. How did you flush mount these? Is it because your lift moved the steel frame bumper inside out of the way?

Yes, I never made new rear bumper brackets with the body lift which allowed me clearance behind the plastic cover

Some great looking 3rd gens posted lately! Let's keep'm coming!!

Here are some shots of my 05 Limited as she is right now. Wife and I are prepping her for overland use since our old Montero finally gave up the ghost last year. 1.25" BTF spacers and 1.5" body lift are in her future, hoping to run 33s but may end up with 32s, we'll see. Also planned are Spartan locker, skid plates, and recovery points. The electrical will all get upgraded with an isolated dual battery setup for the fridge, exterior off road lighting, and inside we'll have 2m/440 HAM, CB, GPS, and LED aux lighting for the cargo area.

Right now I'm working on our interior storage since we have a camping trip coming up . The cargo area will have a drawer system for propane camp stove, Indel fridge, dry goods, etc, and a deck for securing our luggage and other gear. A roof rack was originally planned to hold fuel and water but in the interest of keeping our weight as low on the frame as possible we're removing the passenger rear seat and mounting a custom cradle for our NATO-spec jerry cans.

You gotta tell me what lift and tire you're running

Rancho Quick Lift Struts - 2.25 BTF front spacers - 1.75 BTF rear spacers - BTF extended upper control arms - 3in body lift - 18x9 XD Monster wheels - 325/60r18 Nitto Terra Grapplers

It's in his signature

Been working on the storage system, since we've been camping literally every weekend for the last month we've been able to see what works and what doesn't. Roof rack is next on the list for sure. We barely have room for everything as is and I still have to build a mount for the fuel and water cans. With a rack a lot of this stuff can go on the roof and that will help tremendously.
