    Intake for 3.5 NA

aFe Power 51-12842 Stage 2 Cold Air Intake There aren’t a lot of aftermarket parts for the 3.5 NA, and very few intakes. The K&N and AEM have design issues. Both intakes suck directly from the hot air of the engine bay and bypass the good design of the stock intake drawing cold air from behind...

What did you do to your 5th Gen?

The MDesign intake is a direct connection between grille and throttle body. You might want to check that out. That said, reports I've read from guys who have done some testing on the drag strip are that the best intake for the 3.5 Eco is the stock intake system with a drop-in AEM dry filter...

What did you do to your 5th Gen?

I love the covers! Zero issues. I much prefer the clean look of the covers to the shape of the stock calipers (even painted), but that's a personal preference thing. I know plenty of people who like the G2 paint.

What did you do to your 5th Gen?

I installed my aFe intake today. That thing really growls! I will likely get the cover to tone it down just a bit. I don't have a feel yet for any improvement in performance (I'm not really expecting any), but I've only driven it a couple of miles so far. The vac hose is definitely too...

What did you do to your 5th Gen?

How do you like the aFe intake? Notice any differences in performance? I just received delivery of one myself. I got it for the exact same reason.

    Nope. Nothing I noticed.

    5th Gen Explorer Photo Thread

I would suggest an AEM dryflow drop-in (#28-20395) instead of the K&N. There have been many reports of the oil on the K&N causing issues with the Mass Air Sensor.

    SCT X4 Performance Programmer

The STC X4 is hardware. More important is the programming that goes into it. There are quite a few tuners who use the STC X4 platform for their tunes - 5 Star, Unleashed, etc. That said, there are a lot of happy Livernois tune users on this site. Livernois uses their own device rather than...

    Explorer Brake Upgrades

Yes. Your Ex has the "heavy duty" brakes.

Should I buy an Explorer Sport?

If you have the money for the high end escort, opting for the cheap hooker is probably a bad choice. When you're limited to a cheap hooker budget, you just gotta work with what you've got available to you. Based on the OP, it sounds a lot like there's a budget constraint.

Should I buy an Explorer Sport?

In stock form, the Explorer Sport is comparable to the Macan for HP output (365 vs 360). The Ex is heavier, and probably a bit slower because of it. However, run a tune and do a couple of other easy upgrades on the Ex, and you'll likely leave the Macan in your rear view mirror. It's pretty...

    Pedal Commander

I'm running one on my XLT (3.5 NA engine). I like it. It's not really a performance enhancer (it will not increase engine HP or torque), but more of a response adjuster. Essentially, it's a signal amplifier between the pedal and the throttle body resulting in more throttle response with less...

    Modified N/A Explorers

I like it. Essentially, it amplifies the signal from the pedal to the throttle body, so you get more throttle opening with less pedal push. The result is the sensation of the vehicle being a bit more lively to throttle input. The Pedal Commander has a whole lot of settings, and most of them...
