I just picked up 2 dana 44 High pinions and ive got a question. They both need some parts rebuilt on it. The one has a problem with the pinion not engaging on the ring and the other is missing the passenger side axle shaft and has drum brakes. So my question is can I take D44 ttb parts and slap them in my straight axle? I figure the axle shaft would be different because of the joint but can I take everything from the knuckles out and use it? Also it looks like one has some sort of a hydro assist on it. Is this rare or is it kind of a crappy design that no one wants? Thanks,

Ring and pinion are the same in general, as would be the shims and bearing supporting the carrier and the pinion. As for the outers stub shafts, they do have different part numbers between the IFS unit and the solid axles. The knuckles are definitely different. I suggest going on a place like Rockauto and comparing part number for the pieces you are interested in swapping

Check out Jeff's bronco graveyard. Should help you with what's available.
