I have an auto 4WD 04' Explorer that is now stuck in 4WD. The front end binds and jerks around when making tight turns.
I've been reading all of the old posts about the "brown wire mod" and some possible causes of this but I have a quick question before starting to mess around with mods and throwing parts at this thing.
The problem seemed to pop up after we had a severe storm that caused some flash flooding. I had to drive through 2 pretty deep spots of water running across the road on my way home after this storm.
One of them was at least a foot deep with traffic hitting it both ways causing it to surge and splash even higher.
Is it possible this water could have shorted out the motor that controls the 4WD switching that is attached to the TC?
Additional info: Hitting the 4x4 Low button engages the low range properly. Hitting the 4x4 High button also engages 4 wheel high. When hitting the 4x4 auto button I can cancel 4x4 low or high (at least on the dash lights).
