    Newport Breakers Yard

Well the explorer past its MoT finally.. Needed 4 tyres and the back section of the exhaust.. So I know it come in two pieces! But it needed, surprise surprise, rear disks, pads and unseizing of the handbrake... So £800 later it passed! Now to the front right wheel hub/bearing!

2000 North Face front wheel bearing/hub needed

No it's definitely the front end... The grinding ( deep noise) and the vibrations all come from the right side wheel area, from in front of the drivers wheel in the UK! I read the other threads that suggested it was the right side, but I may as well do both I suppose.. Any way to tell if the...

2000 North Face front wheel bearing/hub needed

As it says really, got a huge grinding noise that increases as I accellerate, dies when I turn left and goes ballistic when I turn right, most noticeable at about 40mph.... Apart from keeping well away from that speed am I right in thinking I need a right hand bearing/hub unit? Rock auto...

    Newport Breakers Yard

No adding to the list of breakers but just to say my green 2000 North Face is back on the road and being driven around Bristol, Somerset and along the M4/M5 corridors... She cost £800 to get through the MOT but that did get 4 new (decent) tyres, whole new exhaust, repaired windscreen and rear...

    thoughts about a fuse

Ok, my rear wiper isn't working but the wash is squirting... I've also noticed my radio isn't remembering the time.... so i assume theres a fuse blown somewhere? Consulting the manual I notice the under bonnet fuse box bears no resemblance to the one in the manual! So anyone know which...

    pre-gapped spark plugs..

Well, just for once the old girl doesn't make me bleed to get to the truth! Removed the drivers front wheel and pulled back the wheel well cover and removed the lead from plug 3. And low and behold, the NEW plugs ceramic is split in 3 pieces! removed and replaced with an old one, then...

    pre-gapped spark plugs..

yep, I think thats the solution to check all leads and drive it. Then change one plug at a time and drive it after each change.... Long and drawn out but perhaps the only way... Cheers all SK

    pre-gapped spark plugs..

these were the plugs offered when I asked for Ford Explorer plugs! And interesting that they were in there before! And the halfords feeler gauges all go up to 1mm. Do you just push the 1mm and 0.3mm together to get the total gap of 1.3mm?? Cheers just thought there were feeler gauges out...

    pre-gapped spark plugs..

Ok, the drama that is changing the spark plugs... I bought 6 NKG platinums from a local motor factors who confirmed them as pre gapped. After removing the old (same make ones) and realising they didn't really need changing - judging by the colour and wear (typical!) I installed the new ones...

    Replaced Front ARB Bushings

I found one of my ARB links had sheered off at the top nut. Both the nut and bushing were missing and the lower link was wafting around in the breeze - giving an interesting and somewhat wobbly ride! Ordered a new one off theBay for a tenner and fitted it today. Took an hour to remove the old...

    Oom12??

ok, Still proud of myself... but had to bail out at the lower manifold part. I got the upper manifold off and encountered a sea of LPG lines and electronic units attached to the rail that should be removed after the vacuum thingy... So I know WHAT to do, just got a bit worried about the...

    Knackered exhaust power loss

cool cheers for that! local exhaust specialist reckons its the horizontal cat that's "rattling like a bugger" so will get that bit first! Cheers SK
  20. S

    Oom12??

See I thought that. I can see Justin going for £150. He adds £20 to make it that price cos it's an lpg hence more bits to remove! Right, I'm getting a kit from Chris and let's get it done! Cheers, Sk

    Knackered exhaust power loss

Ahh, I've got a good set of tools. Just dunno how to use 'em!! OK, stupid question. How many parts does the exhaust come in? Ebays got back boxes and cats, but the cat unit looks to only have the vertical cat. Mine has two, both vertical and horizontal. What else am I going to need...

    Knackered exhaust power loss

Now that's what i've ben thinking. It has been making enough of a racket to make me think it was the timing chains so it probably HAS blocked up somewhere! ok, so up to £250 for a full setup then.... What's it like getting up to the manifold bolts? They look a long way up and difficult to get...

    Knackered exhaust power loss

Hi there. Anyone reading the oom12 thread will know about my rattling 'engine'. Well after a morning under the truck I can definitely say the rattle is coming from the exhaust cat. Well one of them, think it's the vertical one but might be both! Good news as it means I only need an oom12...

    Oom12??

Hi again OK last question about all this.. Lee in aylesbury wants £250 for fitting an oom12 in about 2 hours. Justin in Wales wants £150 for fitting it in 1.5days... Is there a reason for the price difference. Perhaps either Justin or Lee are here? Regards Sk

    Oom12??

Again, cheer Fingers...Will look at that option as soon as i've sorted this interesting problem.... Ok, so i've had the "engine rattle" for a few days sounding like a nut and bolt in a washing machine. As its my days off i've run it around (looking for the gold nectar of fuel - £1.51 per...
