Thanks for the lesson, however I meant Ford dropped the ball by not making HID standard in all trims. Many people on this forum have put HID lights in their base and sport models. I'm not expecting perfection from doing this mod I also don't expect them to look as though they are being shown...
I attempted to DIY the HID kit from coolbulbs. Andrew was great but after 2 failed ballasts he refunded my money. I then tried my local auto accessory shop. I had a Maxx 9005 kit installed which so far has been reliable and they installed it. I also have the warranty on the work and the parts...
It's an easy mod. Buy a piece of flat black vinyl from eBay. Use some tracing paper and transfer to the vinyl sheet. Cut it out and apply. It will take you no more than 30 minutes.

The ballast blew one of my fuses as well. PIA to change. What were they thinking putting the fuse box so far underneath the dash? Going to get a kit installed from my local shop. At least if there's issues I can drive back instead of mailing bad ballasts back and forth.

Looks great but don't make too many mods. CDN_Explorer will be all over you with negative comments. Apparently all explorers have to conform to his liking. If you post pics you're fair game I've been told. Just a heads up, enjoy!
Using the Cree LED lights that Harley suggested do not require the use of resistors. I used the LED lights he recommended and they work great with no issues of hyperflash.
