    Funeral Escort Service

The same thing has been happening with several “family business” type industries…the one that seems the most enormously successful is veterinarians. Check your vet, decent chance you’ll discover they’re owned by one of several holding companies. They keep the name, often even keep the named vet...

    Explorer 'A' pillar replacement

I was able to find an aftermarket solution that includes the full kit, we will see how that works out, as aftermarket parts can be a crapshoot but the Ford part failed, so... Looks like install is trivial per YouTube videos, unscrew old lower, screw in new lower, install snaps and apply some...

    Explorer 'A' pillar replacement

So, my research says I need Pillar Molding - Ford (BB5Z-7803144-AA) Lower Molding - Ford (BB5Z-7803144-BA) And potentially the clips, but some people say the clips came with the parts (???) which say they are left and I cannot find a right part number? BB5Z-78519R44-A Can somebody who has done...

    Explorer 'A' pillar replacement

So...a gust of wind just ripped this panel off my 2018 XLT on the highway. Is this a user replaceable part with moderate skills, and does anybody happen to know A) the part number and B) how it comes off (is it just the visible bolts?)?

List of Useful Threads Hood Paint bubble issue only

I just got my 2018 Explorer back from Ford for rectification of the paint bubbling issue. As a refresher, I had bubbling on the lip of my hood at around 20k miles/1.5 years of age. Ford had approved hood replacement, but there was a month-long delay in getting a replacement hood. They took the...

Update: Dealer scheduled replacement for 8/26. They are providing a rental.

List of Useful Threads Hood Paint bubble issue only

In case anybody else ends up needing a new hood...expect delays right now. Dealership doesn’t expect to receive new hood until 8/30 due to a national backlog. Said something about 300 something hoods ahead of me or that there was an order for 300 hoods shipping 8/30. Regardless, their plan is to...

Heed Help... 2011 Explorer Limited will not start.

That does sound like a bad ground...but, just for a lark, try it with your other key or with the key in the hidden center console mechanical key slot and see if that works, just to rule out any weird forgotten fob/PATS nonsense. Probably won’t work, but worth the 15 seconds it takes to try.

List of Useful Threads Hood Paint bubble issue only

That raises interesting questions... First, why would the die (not the press, just the die) be used for multiple metals? A hood is a fairly large piece and I would have assumed it is stamped individually with its own die, or on a die with multiple identical parts (as in multiple hoods). Also...

List of Useful Threads Hood Paint bubble issue only

Yes. From what I could glean from the service advisor, the hood ordered was the original 2018 hood assembly part number, 16612, which was the hood for 05/04/2015 - 03/05/2019 Explorers without revision, per Ford Parts. Since this hood was in production at least as recently as a few months ago...

List of Useful Threads Hood Paint bubble issue only

You would think they’d have this figured out by now, but nagging production issues like this sometimes take years to sort out if they don’t know the cause. It’s purely speculation, but if replacing the hood and having painting done by a body shop solves the issue, it is entirely possible the...

List of Useful Threads Hood Paint bubble issue only

Dealer just called. Ford authorized hood replacement. I’d echo charron19’s curiosity as to whether the replacement solves the issue or if it returns 1-2 years down the road. I guess it would depend on what the contamination was caused by and whether it’s something your average body shop can...

List of Useful Threads Hood Paint bubble issue only

I was just at my dealer getting pictures taken for warranty approval on this issue. At just shy of 20k miles our 2018 XLT showed some light bubbling on the very edge of the hood. Looked very similar to touch up paint over rust. Dealer didn’t get into whether it was paint adhesion or an aluminum...

    Shift Button Behavior - 2018 w/o paddles

It is odd. It is not the only thing I have found that the manual is less than accurate about (it also describes the function of some of the climate buttons incorrectly for this model year and trim level), but it is the one I cannot find any explanation for. My dealership was able to confirm none...

2014 Ford Ex Sport Back window blows out

You’re absolutely correct. I absolutely forgot to include that it was the 2014 1st printing.

2014 Ford Ex Sport Back window blows out

The operation of your 2014’s remote start in relation to things like climate control and heated mirrors/windows is detailed in the climate control section of your manual, and I suggest you confirm it there, but it depends on which system you have. It may come on, it may not, depending on several...

2014 Ford Ex Sport Back window blows out

The rear glass is not hinged on the 5th generation Explorer (2011-present). It’s a fixed panel.

2014 Ford Ex Sport Back window blows out

I’ve never had it happen in a vehicle in warm weather. I’ve had it happen a few times in cold weather when the defrost was on and the vehicle had some lingering ice. As others have noted, on rare occasions, tempered glass can occasionally have spontaneous bursting events like this, especially if...

    Odd sound after PTU replaced

Maybe they put something back together wrong in the exhaust? They had to move it out of the way to replace the PTU. I’d expect the noise to be engine RPM rather than vehicle speed dependent if it was exhaust related, but who knows. I’d reserve judgment until they scope out the sound better. The...

    Odd sound after PTU replaced

I’m not sure I’d be concerned yet, but I would have the dealer check it out. It’s entirely possible that you are just paying more attention to the noises it makes since the PTU was replaced, and it’s always made the noise to some degree, and it’s also possible some gear noise is acceptable and...

What is this light called, and what's the part #?

Did you buy it new? Did you import it? Do you notice if all Explorers in Switzerland have them? My bet is that it is an aftermarket puddle type lamp or some sort of compliance lamp. They don’t look factory. They certainly aren’t available on US market vehicles.

    Odd sound after PTU replaced

Never noticed it before the PTU was changed, right? I ask because some units of the 6F transmissions have some final drive gear whine, particularly the 6F35, but since the designs are fairly similar I guess it could show up in a 6F50/55. It’s usually only heard in first or second gear though...

Can you describe or have a passenger record the sound?

How many people have had the airbag warning light activate

Dealership. The codes won’t show on a regular OBD-II scanner, you need one that can read Ford specific codes.
