05 Ranger issue further explored; no power to the light at all

Hi! The dome light in my Ranger works intermittently. I noticed that the light sometimes showed dim. After I worked on it the power to the light went out totally. I tested it with a VOM. I may have shorted something or ripped the wire out of its misery. I'm going to rewire the light. I see...

Does 2005 Ranger passenger door activate dome light

Replaced pin switch and solved the original issue. Original in that I can't get the door to open or key unlock from the outside. If I'm inside I can open it. I may need to start a new thread but I can't find a good diagram for the 2004-on Ranger's passenger door. I also wonder why I can't...

Does 2005 Ranger passenger door activate dome light

I did find the plunger switch but it seems the thing was disconnected from the power lead for some reason. I did notice the vapor barrier came off rather easily. I plugged the lead back in and the light acted funny. Now I get to deal with the connector rods and try to put them together again...

Does 2005 Ranger passenger door activate dome light

Hello I bought a 2005 Ranger and found out that the passenger door's opening will not turn on the dome light. Is that by design or is there a door switch that won't work.

Putting split fit flange on exhaust manifold\exhaust pipe joint Ranger

My 96 Ranger 4.0 has an exhaust leak at the joint near the driver's manifold pipe. The bolts to the flange are going nowhere. I need to cut the bolts and go with a split flange to tighten the connection. Two questions: 1) is there such a thing as a gasket between the two flared ends? and 2)...

After Seafoam in Throttle Body I hear the tapping

I tried everything but with a variation; I went a few ounces over with the Seafoam in the crankcase after 45 minutes of it running with half of a can. I drained the oil and didn't refill with the MMO; I just did Lucas and 10W30 Havoline. It still tapped after five minutes of running. To the...

After Seafoam in Throttle Body I hear the tapping

This weekend it gets cleaned out and re-oiled. If it's a worn rocker or bad rod what will happen as time goes by?

After Seafoam in Throttle Body I hear the tapping

I think the lack of reply makes it evident I bent a pushrod or rocker arm. How much, roughly, would a shop charge to do the rockers and rods?

After Seafoam in Throttle Body I hear the tapping

I sprayed Seafoam spray into the throttle body of my 4.0 OHV on the 96 Ranger. I revved the engine because I forgot there was a hole in the choke and had wedged the tube inside the TB. I powered it off, let the vehicle sit for 30 minutes then cranked it up. I heard the tapping. It sounded...

Part came off rusty pipe underneath my 4.0 OHV 96 Ranger

https://www.flickr.com/photos/74654914@N00/33633340136/in/dateposted-public/ is a better picture. This is viewed from the driver's underside of the engine. Why I thought it was the passenger's side I don't know. I guess working in a healthcare facility (pt right vs left) did it to me. Is it...

Part came off rusty pipe underneath my 4.0 OHV 96 Ranger

I took another look. There's a spring inside and it looks smaller than I though it did. It's the oil pressure sensor switch, right or wrong? I took a zip-tie to put it back on but I don't think it did any good. The oil pressure (flat teapot picture on gauge) is showing low even if running...

Part came off rusty pipe underneath my 4.0 OHV 96 Ranger

I rotated the picture counterclockwise and made comments https://www.flickr.com/photos/74654914@N00/33523487601/in/dateposted-public/. There is a rusty pipe coming off the bottom left side of the engine. Atop it there is a spring. It appears there is a spring loaded contact for something...

Part came off rusty pipe underneath my 4.0 OHV 96 Ranger

I was changing my oil and saw a part dangling. The plastic sheath you see in the picture broke and there was a rusty pipe coming off the bottom passenger side of the 4.0 OHV. What the heck does it do? It must be some sort of sensor. Sorry if the pic doesn't show; I don't get to the forum that...

Got a high-time 1996 Ranger; what do I need to do to it?

Whew! That means instead of a timing chain issue it could be a rod/rocker at the worst. The noise sounds like a dull tapping. I thought it was coming from the rear bottom but I'll listen further. If so would Marvel Mystery Oil help lube the rockers or is that hooey?

Got a high-time 1996 Ranger; what do I need to do to it?

I have a 1996 Ranger 4.0 Extended Cab. It has a estimated 200,000 miles on it (estimated because the odometer died some time back). I acquired it three years ago and have been working on it since. I drive it once every week or two. I am happy with the truck and love the work I've done on...

How to: Transmission Band Specification Chart

Good post. By the way... when adjusting the intermediate band the cable and lever will be in the way of ANY torque socket wrench. It has to be removed. No ifs, ands, or buts. PB Blaster may be needed for the two nuts. Once that is done there is a plastic bracket through which a plastic arrow...

When opening door with key the horn sometimes blows

Hi My 1996 Ranger blows the horn when I open the door after unlocking it with a key. It happens on the passenger side but sometimes on the driver's side. The horn hushes once I put the key in the ignition and twist it. I have tried copious amounts of WD40 in the lock latch mechanism to no...

Will band adjustment fix Ranger delay in reverse on 4R55E tranny

OOPS: the 4R55E doesn't have an adjustment for the reverse/low band.

Will band adjustment fix Ranger delay in reverse on 4R55E tranny

Hey there My 96 Ranger 4.0 with a 4R55E has a delay in engaging reverse. I have to let the thing sit in gear before letting the brake go. Will adjusting the bands with the screws on the side of the transmission help- even if the 4R55E has no adjustment for the low/reverse band? Praying it's...

Unlocking and opening passenger door blows horn

The horn blows when I unlock and open the passenger door when I go to get something from the passenger's side of the door. How do I get this not to happen?

Change Wires even Without Codes to fix rough idle

I need to check the vacuum lines to be sure there are no issues. I swapped the IACV with a used one last year. I swapped all plugs but I did not swap the wires.

Change Wires even Without Codes to fix rough idle

I heard from someone that I should change my wires to alleviate an issue with rough running on my 96 XLT. I haven't had any codes thrown. Will bad wires cause my issues no matter what the codes say? Thanks KT

96 Ranger 4.0 is Waltzing Matilda on steering

Steering is not sloppy but when I turn the wheel slightly I find myself having to turn it back the other way slightly. The steering wheel is very responsive. I wonder if there is some wobble I don't know about.

96 Ranger 4.0 is Waltzing Matilda on steering

Hi My 96 ranger has to have frequent correction of steering. I will turn the wheel left, for instance, and will travel straight until I need to turn it right. It seems as if the steering is hypersensitive. I wonder if something has a mind of its own. To fix this I did a change-out of the...

Name of gasket to fix pre-front Cat Converter

So it would be: the Front and Rear Assembly outlet or Walker donut? http://www.flickr.com/photos/74654914@N00/12146902506 The picture wouldn't transfer. So sorry
