2012 ford explorer 4wd XLT / 4wd problems

Rece recently purchased 2012 Ford Explorer with 74,000 miles the first snow event needing to use the 4 wheel drive it would not engage in send an error message any thoughts wheel sensors possibly transfer case issues any thoughts??

Welcome to the Forum James.
When you say you tried to engage 4 wheel drive are you referring to putting the Terrain Management System control knob in 'Snow' mode?

Yes my w ife drives it we have had it a month ... it sent an error code and would not engage during a lake effect snow storm while driving .. but today no error and seems to work and engage

Some error messages will also store an error code that can be retrieved via the OBD port. That code, if present, would give an indication of what to look at.
