OK -
I have a 2000 EXP with the 4.0L OHV - Bought used (cheap) with 123K miles.
The vehicle has a number of issues that I'm slowly working though, but one in particular has me scratching my head right now.
The "check engine" light came on a few months after I bought it - I checked the codes and it was P0171 and P0174 - No drivability issues, though.
I mentally put intake manifold gaskets on my "to do" list.............
Was fine for quite a while, and then (suddenly) started randomly missing at cruising speed and idling rough .
Checked code - P0304 - #4 misfiring........OK - Time for gaskets
I replaced ALL the intake gaskets, upper and lower -
Did a very careful job, using a nice Victor Reintz set, everything cleaned nice and torqued to spec.
I inspected all the vacuum hoses, etc during the job - Everything looked OK.
STILL missing at speed, idling rough, CE light on.
Codes now P1151, P1153, P0136 (all the O2 sensors showing lean) , AND P0171, P0174
I have checked everywhere, with a propane torch, for a vacuum leak - Nada.
I have checked fuel pressure - 60lbs +
I have replaced the fuel filter .
The MAF sensor was replaced with a new one a year ago, to fix a different issue.
Plugs and wires were replaced less than a year ago - little mileage since.
Coil pack checked out with a multi meter - OK
I cleared the codes this AM and drove for about a 1/2 hour - Still random miss, bad idle -
No light this time , but still pulled codes P0171, P0174.
What am I overlooking? I'm missing something, obviously....
Anything else possibly causing this problem?
Bad Injectors ? Both banks lean would mean ALL of them, all at once ?
They actually looked like replacements, when I did the gaskets.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
