I have a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Regardless of where the control knob is positioned all air, be it heat, air from the outside or air conditioner is coming through as if it was set for defrost. I heard a clunk type noise as I was switching the knob from the floor to defrost position and think something broke inside the heating/air control system - perhaps a lever or door. Has this occured to anyone else and is there a solution for an avid do it myselfer?

Clunk is not a good sign..........

I can round up some HVAC info for you if you'd like it. DEFROST is the default setting it goes to if vacuum is lost. Check your vacuum supply lines.

      You have mail.

Check your vacuum lines for a break or crack, first thing.

      vacuum leaks

Do you happen to have a vacuum diagram of the 1996 ford ranger? I have a vacuum line that is disconnected and I can not seem to find where it goes. Its the line coming from under the blower motor towards the air filter. Everything appears to be hooked up to something except this one. May have been white and discolored greenish.

      Thanks,
      Marty -- aka karaynn

No matter where I turn the knob for air flow control, the air comes out of the defrost. How do I find info on the vacuum lines to see if there is a leak?
