I seem to have found the problem with my 95 Ex 4.0 It died again on my son today. wouldn't start. I went to recue him. When I got there it started up. soI started following him home. on a right turn it died. upon knocking on the regulator with a hammer. It started. I let it run until it started to die then hit the regulator again. it started running right again. then died.

So I figure it must be the regulator. It is on the pass side behind the rad hose
Has anyone replaced one? any tips ect. how hard is it to do?

Thanks
Tim

Okay first off you should test the fuel pressure before you buy a new regulator and just throw it on.

yes there are LOTS of people who have installed a new regualtor, it is pretty simple.

Did you try a search?

1. releve fuel pressure (couple ways to do this, pull fuel pump relay, start truck let it die. Bleed pressure off fuel rail at schrader valve)
2. Unhook vacuum line, disconnect - battery cable
3. Unbolt regulator hold down bolts
4. lube new regualtor O ring with vaseline, atf, or motor oil
5. install regualtor by pressing down until O ring seats.
6. re-install bolts and vacuum line, reconnect battery
7. put relay back in, prime pump 2-3 times, start truck, check for leaks.

Its pretty straight forward and pretty easy.
