Well, I'm not necessarily looking for a job, though I wouldn't turn one down... I'd like to work as a para at a jr/sr high school.

BUT thats not why I'm actually posting. My wife and I are moving to the Phoenix/Mesa area in May/June. She's already got a job in Tempe and starts May 1. I'll head out later once the house is sold.
Now the question... What are the laws pertaining to getting my vehicles tagged in AZ? In KS I don't have to worry about safety inspections, smog inspections, etc. So my Explorer is missing the third Cat Conv. It also has a CEL that needs addressing (insufficient Exhaust Gas Flow, just haven't gotten around to it). Is this light gonna keep me from getting a tag? Is the missing Cat Converter going to need to be replaced? I'd really like to take care of these things prior to moving if they need to be addressed.

You might want to check into exempt areas. Maybe Tempe is one? You'll fail with the CEL, and the missing cat.

Yep, definitely need to get that CEL taken care of. Probably an EGR valve or DPFE sensor. I'll look those up here. I really don't want to put that third CAT back in. My setup looks pretty stock, and still has the first two cats bolted near the manifolds. Wonder if that'd get the job done. LOL I noted it said it "may" be visually inspected. Thats like saying "go ahead, take your chances, we may not even look...."

Back when I lived in Phoenix from 2000-2002, it must have been a lot slower to get an emission test done. My co-workers would allot a whole day for waiting and testing.

I've seen the inspector use a mirror on some cars looking for smog equipment, I've never had them do it to my car though. Only 2 counties in the state do emissions testing. The CEL must be off or you will fail. They test the gas cap and pressure test the fuel system too. How much do you pay in registration each year in KS?

Well its official now. The house is sold, closing is on the 30th.
Some friends and I are going to load up a U-Haul on the 29th, I'll sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor that night and then bright and early I'm driving to the realtors to sign the papers, then loading the Explorer up on the U-Haul car-trailer and headed for AZ.
I'm going to meet my cousin from KC at KSrocks tomorrow for one last hurrah in the midwest.

1200 miles in a U haul makes for a long day. You taking all interstate or going the scenic route?

LoL as much interstate as the route allows. And an overnight at a truckstop or Wal-Mart sleeping in the back of the Explorer with my Labrador. Fun times.

I drove a large U-Haul truck 130 miles when I moved from CO to WY. It sucked. Hope yours has cruise control. Mine did not. Out in southern WY on a two-lane highway, at times, I had my left foot on the gas pedal, and my right foot on the center console :shifty:

You will be just in time for the full effect of hell... You see I say that we have two seasons in the "Valley of the Sun" Summer, and Hell! Summer lasts about 9 months... It will be coming back in September ;)

If you are coming in this week be careful in the heat. We are supposed to be in the one hundred and teens all week. Stay hydrated... The dryness sucks the moisture right out of you.

LoL yea, I gotta agree with you. When I flew out there to help Sandi move to KS (In 2013) it was August. And it was HOT and dry as you said. I noticed the "suck the moisture right out of you" part. And here I am again, moving TO AZ in the summer (or Hell) months.

For some dumb reason, the majority of my moves have also been in the dead of summer:eek: Not just for myself either, but helping friends as well.

When I moved to Phoenix, it was in mid-February. Lots of people walking around in puffy winter coats [IMG] The g/f and I walking around in shorts and t-shirts.

LOL Exactly! When my brother moved to florida. the first winter he was there it got down to mid-40s. Folks went out and bought heavy coats... My brother was out mowing his lawn in shirt sleeves. But now he's one of them and complains if it gets below 65... LOL

Anything under 100 is sweater weather. I got used to the heat pretty fast. I remember my first summer here. My ranger didn't have A/C and it was the first week of August. By October I forgot about the extreme heat until an unusually warm 100 degree day the next march. That day I went to a junk yard and got A/C for my truck. I look back at that and laugh, my van doesn't have A/C and I had to run the heater for an entire summer a few years ago.

few days under 110 will help while unpacking the U-haul. I know I've asked but can't find it, what year is the T-bird?

Sorry to see you leave but glad you made it home! Gonna save the jealousy for winter though, if you don't mind.

Arizona just gained a good person. Take care Mike.

Thank you all the drive went good. They rented me a brand new U-Haul with cruise control. Didn't have any problems til I got up around 6,000 ft. I guess even the V10 wheezes at that altitude and load.

unloading wasn't too bad, my wifes son and son-in-law helped out and we just had to unload it into a storage unit (til we get a house bought).

Josh, the Tbird is a 97 and is for sale if you (or anyone) is interested.

John, you are more than welcome to come on out and visit anytime you like. Just holler!

On an unrelated note, it didn't take long for the Explorer to fall victim to the heat... I'm replacing an alternator tomorrow. (Well... its as easy to blame the heat as it is anything hehe truth be told its probably been going out for a while now.)

One thing I found interesting while I was in Phoenix was 24hr part stores. I never went to any of them, but the closest one to me was in a ghetto neighborhood :shifty:

Home Depot used to be 24 hr too in the worst part of town. I guess if a business is going to get customers all hours of the night weather they want it or not, might as well be there for them.
