Cold Air Intake (CAI) Discussion

But what is different about it?

Our Windstorm cold air intakes are designed to work specifically in combination with our custom tuning to optimize performance. These kits are all made in the US and also all include the synthetic dry flow filter media instead of the oiled filters that come standard in most other cold air intakes.

has anyone installed the ROUSH SHO intake? From my understanding, SHO intakes are identical to Xsport and the ROUSH is cheaper than some others. TIA:exp:

Time to bring this thread to the front. I was one of the suckers that bought the Air Raid intake for my 2013 SHO, you know the HOT Air intake system. I was lucky at the time, I got a military discount from Auto Anything, and Air Raid was mailing $50 bills or $100 I can't remember but it was a cool promo. So I never paid full price.

But now with my sport I have been researching trying to find a CAI worthwhile and ended up just using a K&N Panel filter (leftover from the SHO so no cost).

Until now. I am sure this system is being watched closely by competitors, I still don't buy the HP gains until more end users post up their actual Dyno runs, but this looks promising. I decided to jump in, and will be shipped one in the next couple of weeks with the upcoming batch. I am not coming here to promote it, just start up another conversation on the CAI options for the Xsport. Take a look!

Good call. I've been following that as well. The MDesign intake sounds like the best out of the box solution. Plus it frees up some space under the hood. As I'm sure you know, some folks have been sealing the Airaid and have been getting good results as well. That takes a little extra effort though. Nothing I've read shows the K&N being a good option. Too much hot air being sucked in. Now if I could only convince my wife that she needs one on her Sport. :)

Easy sell: improves mpg thus being green friendly, frees up space and weight improving mpg look at her doing her part! Good luck selling her haha! I will definitely post up once it's installed.

Since I'm no expert on these things I rely on other reviews and explanations. What I am gathering is that a CAI will not improve gas mileage. In fact there are members here who have actually removed their kits.

My post was meant as humor not fact. If we really were concerned on mpg we would be driving hybrids.

This CAI I posted up is getting thumbs up from every end user and convinced me to try it while its attainable. I don't buy the 15HP until I see more Dyno runs, but unlike the major brands the IAT readings are showing it's definitely cold air.

I thought it probably was (humour) but just in case I thought I'd add my post to see if others may have found that it does in some cases increase mpg. :)

MDesign Intake

I just got a chance to install my Mdesign Carbon fiber CAI yesterday. I installed it outside in the driveway (37 deg out) with 2 tools, a 5/16 socket, and a flathead screwdriver. Install time about 40 minutes and one bloody finger! At one point I was scratching my head saying no way this thing fits in here, but it does you just have to be 10% smarter than your equipment! Anyway here is a before and after shot, its pretty dirty in there but its that time of year who cares!

Seat of the pants feels a little more responsive, the blow off is clearly audible now with the windows down a little. You can hear the air rush also. Many users are claiming less soot buildup on the exhaust tips after install, when I get my truck cleaned good I will monitor that. I only drove around for about an hour last night but was WOT constantly like a kid with a new toy. MPG 11.7 LOL!
Anyway without further ado here is my picture:

Thanks for the pics, looks great! I've been thinking about this myself. ive read a lot of conflicting opinions about doing a CAI on the Sport at all - but if I add one, this is the way I'm leaning.

I know the K&N cold air intake has a plate which guides the incoming cold air directly into the filter of their CAI... If all your doing is breathing in the same hot air from the engine bay then don't waste your money.

I believe the MDesign intake uses the same cold air inlet location as the stock air box, with sealed outside air from behind the front grill.

M Design CAI

More pictures please! I would like to see a wide angle shot to more of the filter.

Quick question, do aftermarket CAI void CPO warranty?

I don't know for sure but I doubt it. Normally the only thing that is not covered under warranty is a part that failed as a direct result of a modification.
