Manged to at least get started on the project of adding the amp and woofer box over the weekend.

Pictures show the wiring color code off the back of the head unit, then my finished installation of the line level adapter with all wires soldered in, taped and tied. I've ran the 4 gauge battery cable to under the driver seat where I will mount the amp.. hopefully tomorrow afternoon. Most difficult thing was drilling through the firewall and getting the grommet installed for the wire to run through. Will try and get a pic of that tomorrow.

Yes, these two pics are the back of the head unit / radio / CD player.

Yeah I figured it out....lol

Long day. Running 1/0 gauge wire is a biatch......

Sub replacement potential?

Hello all,

First post (I need to get over to the intro section at some point). I am looking to replace the factory sub to get a little more bass out of the sony system in my 2013 Sport. Having read through this thread, I searched for 8" dual voice coil, 2 ohm shallow mount subs and came up with these two:

Kicker 40CWRT82 (Link)

Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 (Link)

Has anyone used one of these subs? What all would be involved in getting them installed (any special wiring needed or just plug-and-play)?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum jesse1908.:wavey:
I did a search on both model numbers in the 'Discussion', 'IVT' and 'Modified' sub forums and your post is the only one where they appear. That's not to say other members haven't installed them, they just haven't identified them.
Good luck.:)

Hi guys
I
wanted to know if anyone had installed a hideaway powered sub in their explorer. I have an xlt no factory sub, and so I do not want to put a sub box that I may have to take out every time I need the 3rd row seating. it looks something like this : http://www.kicker.com/11hs8

thanks

Would it install in the place where the OEM sub sits as in post 2 of this thread? There is also a thread that mentions the Kicker ZX300;

A Stealthbox install; http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=395878&highlight=subwoofer

no these go under the seats. in the explorers case it would either go under the driver or passengers seat as there is no room in the second row seats...

Just got done doing what Unsta did to some back speakers to make some mounts. Hollowed out some OEM speakers I bought on ebay for $8 apiece. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-2013-F...728-/281179921371?hash=item4177a11bdb&vxp=mtr)

This way I have a backup plan by keeping my old OEM ones out of the truck.

DB651's are due in today so I'll get them mounted and installed in the next couple days. Then we work on fronts and getting sub installed.

Hollowed shell:

These speakers were MEANT to be installed in these adapters.

Do some of the models that don't have the factory sub, still have the wiring in place for it or no? Does anybody know? I know some car manufacturers still have the wiring in place for some options that were not necessarily installed. Just curious if anybody knows? Thanks!

well, everything is on order with a few pieces already here......upgrading the 2011 xlt 202a pkg (8 speaker premium non sony) with the following :

36sq ft of stinger roadkill deaden inner and outer door skins
JL audio tr650csi 6.5" component setup to replace front speakers
polk db651 6.5" coaxial for rears
MTX 110p powered 10" sub (used in my previous 4runner)

not worrying about extra amps or clean sweeps at this point. going to pull signal for sub off input lines for the existing rear amp via a Pac line out converter.

I do find myself questioning the need to replace front speakers, they're not slouches but I think better can be had relatively easily.

hoping to install next weekend but it'll be weather dependent (no garage).

Have we confirmed that rear speakers get full frequency yet?

thats something I would like to know as well.

I am planning on connecting my 3rd row speakers to my LCI2 for my sub (2016 XLT model premium sound without amp)

Just upgraded my front speakers to Hertz 6x9 3-ways. Happy with the mid and high range but I lost over half of my bass in the front. Very disappointing. Plus no way to go back due to the way it was installed.

Any ideas out here??

Thanks

Did you install an aftermarket amp to power your new fronts? or are you using the HU to power those Hertz speakers?

I bet your Hertz speakers are underpowered through the HU resulting in a lack of bass. I think you will only use your speakers to their full potential by adding an aftermarket amp with sufficient power (pls correct me if Im wrong)..

I will be putting an amp on it this weekend to see if that brings back the bass. Thanks
