This is a stab in the dark here, but has anyone ever installed one of these?

I have 3 radios I want to install (all ham usage, but are public safety grade Motorola XTL5000 radios with remote heads).

I've gotten some quotes from some local companies to do it for me, but the price ranged from mild to wild and some couldn't get to it right away. I would be willing to tackle it myself, but it looks extremely involved and I was curious if anyone has done one of these themselves before I potentially head down that path.

The console for your explorer from havis uses the factory holes from the existing console. No drilling or extra work involved. The main issue is getting the OEM wiring harnesses hooked back up to whatever electronics are under the OEM console. I had my console installed by Fleey Safety and they got it installed not realizing they missed a OEM cable of some sort and then found out the car would not start. They had to call ford to see what the problem was and then had to take the whole console back out just to plug one wire back in. If you do it your self just take your time and it should go smoothly for you.
