help 2002 ford explorer dash light and tail lights out

      help!!! wife was driving out 2002 ford explorer tonight and all of a sudden the dash lights just went completely out i got out and saw my tail lights were not working either but when u hit the brake the it home pulled owner manual got my circuit tester out checked every fuse under dash and under hood........then pulled the left tail light out (its a little cracked but been patch but still gets water trapped in it at times) pulled my bulbs and the sockets are pretty nasty looking i dunno if i should changed sockets out or what?? where the bulbs were in the tail light it had a very strong burning smell
      and i also had my circuit tester out and im not getting anything to the sockets
      and on top of all that stuff i had my lights on while testing it and my battery has died too so i dunno if there is another fuse relay or what??? please help
