HELP!!! 4wd Locked

I have a 1992 XLT Aut.V6 4.0Lt , I'm having problems turning off the 4x4 , somehow it got locked , the 4x4 Lower button is not responding either , Has this happened to anyone ? I don't want to run it and forced the engine .
