Anyone ever install the steps that come down when the door is opened (electric)?

I was actually just searching for them as you posted this. I need a set for the 93 --we can't get into the dang thing.

Installing the sliders will only help slightly, and to make things worse I made them "boatsided" so they will actually be another inch or so higher.

They are very expensive though. I think they could be made for a lot less $$$

I see plenty of room to tuck them in so clearance wouldn't be much an issue.

We need to get into the thing before I worry about clearance though, so, form must follow function on this one.

same here, I have looked at them mounted on Chevy's and it seems the explorer has enough room (there is that slight side skirt. but that can be overcome by mounting further inside so that the step doesn't hit when it comes down. I am going to make a couple calls next week to custom shops see what I can come up with.

I bet you some Amp Research Power Steps for a Super Cab F250 would be about the correct length for a 4-door Explorer.
