How To Install A Flowmaster Muffler (w/Pics)

About the missing hanger...

No mention was made of the hanger, doesn't mean that it isn't there. You can't really tell what is going on at the back of the Flowmaster, the light in the pic is too low, so MP88, wanna clarify? Prudence would dictate that what was removed is to be replaced, including said hanger. I ain't no exhaust specialist, but this ain't brain surgery either. Common sense should prevail.

And, as always, YMMV.

Ok thank you for this post man I realy needed it because the ex-owner did it with fence tubing and other metal piping. I will buy those parts at Canadian tires in Canada but they have stickers for size on adapter and piping and other parts so the size you wrote in your topic can you tll me if its outside diameter or intake diameter and wich side. Thank you miste happy new year. I wont put a flowmaster 40 i will instead put a Cherry bomb vortex classic muffler. BTW on the Explroer first gen exhaust what is the nearest to the engine i cant make the difference the cat or the resonator???

mp u got a sound clip of ur exhaust

I have just got a long pipe of 2.25" so how do you think i could do it? I was thinking about cuttin it between the two cats because its already 2.25" there and also the second cat is rusted. Put an adapter from 2.25 to 2.25 and put my long pipe then another adapter and then a 2.25" muffler. What everyone think abour it you can tell me guys im open to suggestions.

How long did it take for the Flowmaster to break in and sound mean? I just finished my whole Flowmaster system today - Flowmaster Cats, Muffler, and piping from the Y-Pipe back, and I'm not too impressed with the lack of growl.

Do you think I could fit these Onto a '94 xlt? The other on would go onto our '94 ranger...

Edit:

They should fit. Mine was a '94 XLT. You'll just have to move the tips to the end of the vehicle.

thanks... they already sold, but know I know what to look for.

awesome keep up the good work

Good write up, cept he didn't keep the hanger. Its already been said before overtime the system will sag and start rattling on parts. Not a good idea in my opinion.

What did you cut everything with?

flowmaster 40

hey all...newbie here...noticed a few people that wanted to hear the exhaust...i saw quite a few videos on you tube with -explorer flowmaster 40- only had to watch 1 video to know that this was the muffler for this 4.0 motor...it sounds incredible...and this write up is awesome...it will save u easily $100 doing it on ur own...thanks for the info and i hope you tube helps out...

Just got done watching the clip, and the write it I was amazed it was so simple, and it sounds great! I went to an exhaust shop, and asked them if they would do that for me (install a 40's series Flowmaster) the guy proceded to swear against it, saying it would sound like garbage and gave me a bad time about it. I'm going to do it myself, thanks again

I love those saleen tips
but I know thats not an obama sticker on your hatch!!!!

On both trucks I have had them on (one was a delta flow 40 and one was a super 44) both took roughly around 2-4 weeks of break in on them. Depends on how much you drive too. My brother-in-law put one on his silvarado and put 4k miles on h is truck in a week (Marine on leave lol driving his truck as much as he could) , needless to say it was broke in lol.
