I change my plugs and plug wires. Then cleaned my MAF sensor. Ran so.much better.

BEFORE throwing parts at it, scan for stored trouble codes even if you don't have a check engine light. Call around, most auto parts stores do this as a free service or will loan the tool. If any, write the P0 code NUMBERS down and post them.

Recommended spark plug replacement interval is 100,000 miles, but many change them around 70,000 miles. For best results use the Motorcraft SP-500 OE replacements and carefully check gap at .054".. Cleaning the IAC valve, throttle body, and MAF sensor should also be considered routine maintenance.

Also inspect the commonly failed PCV elbow if you have a "Job 2" engine with the oil fill on the passenger side.

Beware of taking DTC codes at their face valve. Yes, you may have a bad coil, but it could also be a bad wire or connection leading from the ECU. The ECU is what triggers the coil and sets DTC codes. Before throwing money at parts it's best to know if it's the part is really at fault. Check your wiring first. It's a PITA and time consuming, but it only costs you your time. If you buy a new coil and find out it wasn't the problem most auto parts stores will not let you return it.

You can also try unplugging your ECU connector and your trans connector checking the pins for damage and re-seating them.

There is also a way to test the coil using a VOM. There's probably a YouTube video on-line showing you how to do it. You test the primary and secondary coil resistance.
