Hello, I'm not sure if this is in the right spot as it's my first time posting but I need help so I'm hoping y'all have some ideas.
I've had my '08 explorer for about a year now and this morning it just would not shift out of park. Turned the car off, checked all the doors, etc. then tried again and five minutes later it worked. Get to work and put it in park but the ignition wouldn't turn completely to off and now the keys are stuck. This is the first time the keys have gotten stuck and it wouldn't turn to the off position. It went into park just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated as we have a large vacation coming up and if this is an expensive fix or something we can't fix, it'd cancel that so I need this to be fixed lol. Thanks in advance for any help.

For now (This is from your manual)

Brake-shift interlock
This vehicle is equipped with a brake-shift interlock feature that prevents
the gearshift lever from being moved from P (Park) when the ignition is
in the ON position unless brake pedal is depressed.
If you cannot move the gearshift lever out of P (Park) with ignition in
the ON position and the brake pedal depressed:
1. Apply the parking brake, turn ignition key to LOCK, then remove the
key.
2. Remove the rubber pad at the
bottom of the cup holder to locate
the access cap of the floor shifter
assembly.
3. Using a screwdriver (or
equivalent), remove the access
panel and depress the shifter lever
on the shift mechanism.
4. Apply the brake and shift into N (Neutral).
5. Return the cover plug to the console access hole. Start the vehicle.
If it is necessary to use the above procedure to move the gearshift lever,

Couldn't copy the pic but it' in your front cup holder.
