Lifts and max tire and wheel sizes for explorers
This is a quick reference guide I have put together based on information gathered from the Explorer Forum. Remember this is just a guide. You may have to do some fender trimming to fit these tires on your explorer. Others things can change what size tire you can run on your explorer. Like fiberglass fenders, rim width and rim backspacing.. I figured this would help some of you that were pondering what size lift to run what size tires. If anyone would like to add something go ahead and post it and I will add it to my list. If any of the moderators could make this a sticky that would be great. Hope this helps.

They're 255/70/16's meaning they are about an inch taller than your original tires. They should work just fine despite making the speedo a little off.

On the 95-2001 I was able to fit P275/70 R16 with no trimming and no lift (and I do have running boards)
It also fit under the back where the spare goes with no issues. (31.2 x 10.8) On a stock 16" sport trac rim.

how big?

So how big can I go with the 16' rims I got stock with my sport. I would love some 33' tires, any sugestions on the bigest size of 33' and name of the tire that will fit with a 3inch BL and tt/shacles lift. ( Is there another list for the 16' rims?)

All of the standard sizes (example 33x12.5) would be the same for 16" wheels except the last number would be 16 instead of 15. The overall height and width would be the same

Thanks for cluing me in. I should of realized... man I love this site.

tire sizes with lifts

Thank you for compiling this information.
It will help to make my decisions somewhat easier. There is a lot of talk out on the streets and where I live it is mostly jeep this, and jeep that, unless its a ford 350 TRUCK. Have not seen a "DONE" X in my area. Shops I go to give really crappy advise for X's. Cannot even find the Superlift for a 2OOO X in their order book, and yes they are listed as superlift dealers. Ho Hum.
Checking out some locals this weekend to test their knowledge of "x" changes.

So where do I get this decal about the website?

i am sitting completely stock in my 94 sport.... i just(like an hour ago) put 4 new 33x10.50s on 8 inch rims the back doesnt rub at all and the front will only rub if it is turned all the way. Dont worry i am putting a lift on it.. i have a custom 6 inch but im runnin these tires because i was sick of the tiny stockers...just thought you might like to know

glad you're putting that lift on, cause once you flex it they're gonna rub.

Like I've said before though 33x10 are much easier than 33x12.

ok the chart was made and a lot of questions were asked so im gonna throw one in. will 32by11.5by15 work with a 1 to 2 in suspension lift and a 2 in body . im trying to stay away from a 3in body so i dont have to extend the brake lines and get longer shocks (right away) or would ya recommend the 3inch

Should work with 2" + 2", but you'll probably need to trim a bit.

You dont need to extend your brake lines or shocks with a three inch Body lift. If you go any bigger then 2 inches with a suspension lift you need to get longer brake lines and and shocks. a 2"+ 2" should work but may need to do sone triming

great then im going with original plan 2in and 3 in ill post some before and afters for everyone once shes done

If you go 3inch Body and 2 inch suspension you shouldn't have any trouble with the 32's

I got 3.5in susp and 1.5in body lift... runnin 33x12.5 a/t and they rub just a bit on the mud flaps at lock

Does anyone know if 32 will fit a 92 with a 2.5 inch lift and 2.5 inch offset rims with no rubbing and no bottoming out?

31's

if i was to put on 31x10.5 r15's, would they cause any problems on my truck at stock hieght. Its a 99 explorer sport 2dr

You should be fine with 31's. You may need to crank your T-Bars a little bit but other then that you should have no problem.
