PCV Valve

      Hello

      According to the service manual I need to change PVC valve sometimes. I've looked everywhere and can't find it. Also where is no PCV valve on fordparts.com for 4.6 engine. Does it ever exist? =)

      In the Ford maintenance scedule the PCV is changed on most cars and light trucks except the 4.6 3v engine. The only service required is to check the PCV flow at 240,000 kilometers (150,000 miles). The PCV is located in the RH valve cover and is integral with it, so to change the PCV you need a new RH valve cover.

      You should be able to see the PCV hose connecting from the air cleaner large tubing to the valve cover at the front of the engine. I will have to check my son's truck to confirm the hose location.

      By RH you meant passenger side? There are two PCV hoses on the passenger side (small one) and on the drivers side (big one). Checked the first one and it was dirty and oily inside. Other one was dry and clean.

      Yes, RH is the passenger side. Lcations are taken from the driver's point of view.

      The air flow through the crankcase starts at the black square box attached to the air filter tube between the filter and the throttle body. A hose from the black square box attaches to a port on the forward part of the RH valve cover and provides air to the crankcase through the PCV "valve" inside the RH valve cover. Air is extracted from the crankcase at the forward part of the LH valve cover through a hose that connects to the forward part of the intake manifold near the throttle body. This is the reverse flow compared to a typical PCV system.

      Any oil laden air in the crankcase will be drawn through the LH valve cover and into the hose and burned in the engine. It is typical for the hose from the LH valve cover (in this case) to the intake to have some oily residue and this contributes to a high failure rate (hose cracking and splitting) causing engine vacuum leaks.

      Sounds like your system is working.
