So tomorrow I'll plasma out the tabs and weld them onto the tie-rod clamp I made about.. what.. three years ago? :(

I'm probably going to just make some hokiebert u-bolt plate tab for right now. I don't plan on keeping the leaf spring setup for long so I don't want to waste time with too much bling.

those cardboard tabs are pretty bling. what are you cutting out metal ones for? just paint them metalic silver.

I would. But I am all out of JB Weld and Gorilla Glue. :(

My what a big ram you have there Mr. Section.

I'm curious to see how are you going to attach the other end of the cylinder to the axle...

And nice SurplusCenter box in the background :D

EDIT: i think you might have hydraulic hose issues - they're all over the place :p:

Those are straws. I was filling it up with hydraulic fluid.

Okay. So we'll call this practice clamp #1. :p: :p:

Apparently I didn't have enough washers between the tabs because after all the welding was done the heim would not go in. Even after a lot of coaxing with the 7" flap wheel. :thumbdwn:

So tomorrow will be clamp #2.

Remember: Measure twice, weld once.

What do you mean the heim would not go in? Isnt the heim in the clamp in the second pic?

Since I was only able to flap so far into the tabs.. this is as far as it would go. I don't want to beat on it either.

Oh ok -- well at least you're getting welding practice out of it :D

If you don't have a plasma cutter... get one!

is it wise/acceptable to mount the ram on the spring plate and at such an angle?

I would think that will put stresses on your leaf and u-bolts that you dont want.

Section's just being lazy :p: -- the cylinder will probably mount behind or on top of the steering link.

It's a photoshop. There's only so much I could do! :p:

Let me make a diagram... :)

Okay.. here is a top view. The ram is going to be level with the tie-rod and directly behind it if you were looking from the front.
