Stupid is as stupid does..................

So i'm doing my front brakes on Saturday. All is going well. It is, after all, disc brakes. Not like the old days when all four corners were drums. This should be easy, right? Wrong!!

All went well. Or so I thought.

I did the front brakes without a hitch. Ex was off the jack stands and ready for the road test. I decided to clean up before the road test.

While I was cleaning up I found one of the new pads by the driver side wheel. My first thought was that the idiots at the factory put an extra pad in the box, right? There is no way that I reassembled the driver side without installing one of the pads. I mean come on, no way.

Well, I'm an idiot. Not only did I forget to install one of the pads, I didn't tighten the caliper bolts!!

Good thing I decided to clean up before the road test and not after.

I got the "extra" pad installed and all was well!

Just goes to show you that you should always check your work.

Hey, nowhere on my resume does it mention intelligence.

It's funny looking back how you can up and forget stuff like that. I forgot to install a fuel pump once. Oh- I installed the whole on-tank housing with the hoses and stuff, even put the seat back in the car. Never put the pump itself onto the housing. WTF? :)

I did run over one of my jackstands after working on brakes. It was laying flat behind my rear tire. I was wondering why when I put the transmission in 'N' won't roll down on my driveway as usuall, so I put in in 'R' and give it a little gas. It did flatten the stand.

I drove an Escort off the front of some drive-up ramps, and then through the beer fridge. I was most upset about the fridge.

put a motor in my capri once. started it, ran great, but the oil pressure wouldnt come up. wire going to the sensor wasn't burnt off from the header so i figured the gauge was shot. after it running for 10 mins, and reeving it, i got out to go do something. when i closed the door, i found out why i had no oil pressure. i dropped the old oil, put on the new filter, but the 5 liters of new oil was still sitting in the back seat.....

Seems that I am in some fine company!

I ran over an oxygen sensor once.... not the old one, yes the NEW one which was $190 ('03 accord cat sensor) .... needless to say the wife was extremely pissed when I told her I had to buy a new one. Because I couldn't run over the metal sensor part I HAD to run over the the connector.

I had everything in the driveway and thought the sensor was out of the way..... drove on the ramps, crawled underneath and cussed up a storm..... wife heard the commotion, and asked WTH my problem was. When I told her I just threw away $190 sensor, she told me good move dumb@$$.... to this day I still get a little flack over it.

Rebuilt a V-8 and forgot to torque down one of the rods. Got it running, rod cap apparently came off, leaving the rod hanging, the crank came around and knocked it through the side of the block. I got under the car and looked, yup, there's the end of the rod, still poking out. '67 Barracuda, my first car.

Changed the oil in the rear diff, and after putting in way more than I thought it should take, was wondering what the heck was going on, then realized the diff cover was not stock, and the full hole was in the front of the diff and I was trying to fill it up to the fill hole on the diff cover, a lot of diff oil wasted on that one.

Sat in the truck cussing and sweating for 10 minutes wondering why it won't go anywhere in forward or reverse until the wife came out and asked if I was going to take the "wood blocks" out from under the wheels.....Duh.
Not even going to mention the time I thought the starter was shot when I got home from the dentist.
Always worth the extra 5 minutes to make a good walkaround when you are done.

One winter day, a few years ago, I had been out 'wheeling in my BII. Normal stuff, ya know, like puddle stompin' playin in the creek, the mudholes, and out racing the ice cracking under the BIIs' weight as I would go across the frozen creek. I got tired of being out there by meself and went back to town to see if I could get anybody to come out and play. While I was a buddy's house, I went inside and sat down for awhile. After I came back out to go play some more, I couldn't get the little BII to move for love nor money. WTH, man. Everything was working when I parked here. Finally realized what I had done... NEVER EVER set the parking brake on drums after playing in the soup like I had been during WINTER. Dumbshot. I got to spend about an hour or so with a torch melting the sludge enough to let it drain out of the drums. Now, I run disc rears and still forget to NOT use the parking brake on occasion... like today. ( Slow learner, or, glutton for punishment, I'm not sure... ) :banghead:

I changed the brakes on my Probe. Neglected to prime them afterwards. Put it in reverse and stomped on it not realizing my wife had pulled in behind me. You guessed it, I rear ended myself with the front of her truck. Go me.

Replaced the clutch in my buddies stang one night, many beers consumed I will add:bdrunk:. Well after everything was bolted back up and taken off the jack stands I rolled it out of the shop, put it in 1st and was ready to tear his yard apart.....but dumped the clutch and nothing happened. His little brother knew we were plastered so he snuck in and moved the driveshaft outside where we couldnt see it. Hey we didnt see any extra parts so as far as we knew we were done. Boy was I pissed afterwards. Guess that was his way to say we didnt need to be driving.

Me next!

I was installing my 3rd transmission into my truck (a4ld of course) And after I stabbed the transmission and bolted everything back up, I drove it for the next month as a delivery driver, putting a lot of miles on the truck. During the entire time I kept hearing this clanking noise from underneath the trans tunnel. It wasn't till the tranny died and I pulled it out again that I found I had forgotten to tighten the torque converter to flexplate nuts. :banghead: Wound up causing the torque converter to slide on the input shaft at weird angles burning up the clutches in the tc and destroying the pump.

Should I delete this thread? It may give the women folk ammo against us men!!:bdrunk:

I rotated the tires on my truck this summer. Jacked up the truck and put jack stands under the rear. Moved to the front and used the floor jack to raise the front. Rotated the tires, put the jack and tools away.

Next morning i get in the truck to leave for work. Put the truck in gear... doesn't move. Confused I throw it in reverse thinking there is a trans issue. Still no movement... i get out and investigate. After much pondering I removed the jack stands from the rear axle...

Rick- is that radiator more aerodynamic?

I launched an Escort off a set of drive-up ramps once when I was going to do an oil change. Probably shouldn't try to drive up ramps the first day you learn to drive a manual transmission.

New entry on fml:

Today, I took my daughter to see Santa at the mall. When I went to pick her up from Santa's lap, my watch snagged on his beard, pulling it off in front of my daughter and about twenty kids in line. My daughter still isn't speaking to me. FML
