Tire and rim options for 2002 Sport

I have a 2002 Sport 2 door. I'm the original owner and after 185000 miles I'm looking to replace the tires and maybe rims with something a little more up to date. I am currently running 225/75/16 on the stock rims. I'm looking for the widest tire that might fit on the stock rim or go with a 18 - 20 rim/tire package that fills the wheel well.

I'd like to go with something lower in profile, but not silly thin and as wide as I can get, not stick out past the fenders and keep functionality.

101 looks and no one has information? Come on

Since 2001-03 two-door Sports share the same front end as 2001-05 Sport Tracs, the 265/70-16 (30.6" diameter/10.4" width) maximum size rule "should" apply. Use one of MANY on line tire calculators to determine comparable overall diameter to retain correct speedometer and ODO values with correct gearing, and maximum width to prevent rubbing on the sway bar or wheel wells. Check your drivers door pillar sticker for stock tire size or use FordEtis link below.

What are the biggest tires that fit on a gen 1 Sport Trac without a lift?

Answer
265/70-16 - Possible chance of slight rub lock to lock. The 265's are 30.5" tall, and that dimension can vary from tire to tire, mfg to mfg. Some members report running 275/70/16 with minor rubbing as well.

thanks for the reply but you did read the part about the 18,19 or 20 inch rim option right?

I did, but if rubbing is your concern, it's tire height and width that are your limiting factors, not rim diameter. GL
