'00 XLT 98000 transmission started slipping really bad about week and a half ago. Today the O/D light began flashing. From 1st to 2nd it revs up really loud and doesn't go into gear very smoothly. My husband is going to change filter and fluid first. We just had a problem with MAF. I read elsewhere that the alternator could have effect on transmission. My husband thought the MAF problem was battery related because the amps were very low until you reved the engine, then they climbed. If you let out on gas the amps dropped again. Could all these problem be related or is our Explorer falling apart? Please help. Thank you!

Also oil pressure guage is reading no/low pressure on start up. Sometimes when the transmission slips into second, that is when the guage jumps to the halfway point.
