Pull the pain, drain and check the fluiid

If it appears good with no burnt smell or metal contamination, rebuild or replace the valve body.

Install new "O" rings on the reverse servo and install a new separator plate with bonded gaskets.

Search on the forum for 5R55E rebuild to learn more

Quick question I have a 2002 198k on it and already got a filter and fluid to do a filter change it still shifts good should I go ahead and do the filter change?

Yes

My opinion in 198K is that I would get a miti vac and quarts of tranny fluid and look at it. If its burnt smelling and dark, I would replace a couple of quarts with each oil change till the fluid looks better, then do the pan and filter. Old tranny's with old fluid do not like to be shocked.

Your transmission type will be the 5R55E.

You ever find out the answer was wondering the same thing
