It's an SUV, but colloquialy call it the Explorer or an Explorer, you will never go wrong. I will tell you this though, I prefer an AMC eagle (4wd stationwagon, for those that don't know) all day over a truck or SUV. I miss my sx/4.

Rangers and F150s aren't trucks either. They are light trucks or pickups.

      This is a truck.

This is true. If "light multipurpose open cargo transportation vehicle" wasn't so hard to say, i'd call vehicles by their proper name all the time! :D

In all honesty, the Explorer is an SUV, but that's lengthy, too. Truck is just so much easier to say.

I call mine a truck. I believe they are truly Sport Utility Vehicles by definition. They were well adapted to both Sport and Utility.

As for the 5th gens, I don't believe they are either. I call the 5th gen a CUV.

      For another data point -
I just bought a 2013 Explorer and the title actually says "STA-WAGON".
But my 1998 was definitely a truck. I mean, it was built on a friggin truck frame, right? (257,600 miles before the tranny quit so I decided to upgrade.)

It's an SUV. Anything else, is wrong.
