    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

I did the same using the new plug when I saw the restrictor was already installed. I guess I will try and rig up some kind of tool to remove the old one. As for the date codes mentioned above, I do not have the original boxes anymore, but one was bought from Tasca quite a few months ago and...

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

When I replaced the tensioner, the kit had already been done so I didn't bother changing the restrictor. I didn't realize it should be changed even if it already has one installed. I will change it and see what happens. Thanks Posted via Mobile Device

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

That's how my first one was. Its crazy... Thankfully my second pops out once it is loosened a bit. Seems like it has a vacuum issue or something. Working on it now...again. Posted via Mobile Device

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

Well, that makes me feel a little better...but sorry it has happened to you! Does your old one still work okay? The first one I bought stayed stuck in. The second seems to work okay until the engine is running. Then it stays stuck in until I loosen it to remove it. It then pops out. If I find a...

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

I am still having issues with chain noise. I have confirmed the engine is in time. If I rotate the engine by hand, the tensioner seems to work fine. However when the engine is running, it never extends. I decided to put the old tensioner (new style though) back in to see what happens, and...

    Dorman UCA

I used the Dorman and am quite happy with them. I did use the Moog camber kit with them because I wanted to replace those as well. I haven't used the Moog arms so I can't really compare them...just wanted to say I did use the Dormans.

Good to know. Still chasing this noisy racket. Thanks!

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

I double checked to make sure the cam was timed correctly. However I now notice that when I crank it by hand sometimes the chain gets slack in the bottom on the left cam. It seems at TDC or 180 off the chain is tight but in between the chain gets loose at the bottom. I can't figure out how that...

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

Update: I went to remove the tensioner and when I loosened it a bit it popped out. I confirmed the chain was tight and put everything back together. It still had a terrible noise. I removed the valve cover again and set the motor to TDC and can confirm that it is timed correctly. The camshaft...

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

Yes, the guide assembly moves fine and will contact the tensioner when I push it over. I am also sure that the guide assembly is installed correctly with both bolts being in the proper place. I will try to rotate it by hand tomorrow to see if anything looks strange. I know I can put the old...

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

I installed the Ford direct cassette. Here is a photo of the tensioner. Thanks!

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

Yes, I checked the tensioner before installing and it worked fine. When I installed it it was touching the new guide and was extended a bit. It wasn't until I ran the engine for a few minutes that it apparently was pushed all the way in somehow and stayed there. What's weird is that I...

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

I don't have to make sure the hole in top of the tensioner lines up exactly with the hole in the block do I?

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

Yes that is the kit (00M12)I am using. Yes, the spring is extended when I install it, but after running for a few minutes it will be stuck in the retracted position. The old one (but updated version) works as it should but is too weak to hold the correct amount of tension. Thanks...

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

Yes, it is the one with the long extended neck. I have bought the "recall" kit both times since it's cheaper than just buying the tensioner itself. Thanks.

    97 SOHC Hydraulic Tensioner Failure?

Hey guys, First thanks to everyone who posts to these boards as you have saved me a lot of time and money. Now for my problem: I recently decided to go ahead and put a new hydraulic tensioner in the left head due to increased chain noise. Well, after installing it, the noise was much...

    "Overdrive Off" light flashing

Is your check engine light on? If not, do you know for sure the check engine light works? Have you checked for codes yet using a code reader?

    New Member, Couple of Issues

Welcome to the forum. I have a 97 XLT SOHC 4.0 2WD Auto. 1. I am currently trying to solve the same idle/vibration issue you are having. I have replaced a lot of things and haven't figured it out yet. Is your check engine light on? Do you have a code reader to check for any codes? 2...

Just Registered - Just Bought a 97 XLT

It's my only vehicle now, so it will get some use :-) It has 173000 on it, so I've been busy with maintenance. Shocks, sway end links, filters, etc... Oh...and a rough "low" idle issue that hasn't been solved yet! Thanks
