    Which oil do you use?

5w30 I live in a place where changing your own oil is out of the question, so I have to let a shop do it. Up here in WI there are plenty of Valvoline places, and I've been happy with their service. Naturally they use Valvoline oil. :p: I use full synthetic--why not, it's the best! It's...

HELP with BI Xenon HID KIT

May I presume that you've already tried tying the right side wires in parallel to the left hand wires? Provided that the above has been tried and fails, I'd try a low (6-25) Ohm load resistor to replace the missing 9007. You can get high wattage load resistors where LED car lighting is sold...

    Wet gremlins

Replace What It depends on what needs replacement, from a leaking exhaust part, to a failed oxygen sensor to the cat. More and better diagnostics are called for, to shorten the list down to one (maybe two) components.

for V8 - dual vs single exhaust ? headers ? high flow cats ?

I was just trying to get in on the fun myself. I didn't think about the iphone posting problem, but I fumble-finger enough with a full-size keyboard. Thank God for auto-spell check! I sure will! It's not going to be nearly as nice as a couple that I saw posted here. But I'll be happy if it...

Wheels for '07 Sport Trac XLT

Measure Twice... My 2007 4WD Sport Trac Limited came with 18" wheels. I don't know if 17" wheels are possible, due to brake clearance issues. But I do know that other Ford vehicles can't take smaller rims. For example, my 2000 GT w/ all-speed traction control has larger brakes, so it can't...

K&N drop in vs K&N cold air ?

Credit Where Due If you over-oiled the filter, I don't think it's fair to blame the FIPK for the inevitable result. I don't see how a FIPK can just "fall off" all by itself. Maybe the too-much-filter-oil condition (you did clean it out after you rectified the problem, right?) might have...

    gear swap

Is It Safe? I'm wondering how adding numerically higher gears will work with the AdvanceTrac RSC, especially with torquier, larger displacement motors. I envision lots of extra rear brake wear and tear. I already have enough wheelspin that I'll be adding a Torsen differential (which is...

for V8 - dual vs single exhaust ? headers ? high flow cats ?

Actually Strunk & White's "Elements of Style" prefer the hyphenated "know-it-all". ;) But 01svtL's point holds water regardless, IMHO. I'm accustomed to speaking with professionals, people with post-graduate educations. Rarely do I encounter an engineer, lawyer or physician who is openly...

Should I buy a'07 ex with 21k that just needed PCM/TCM reprogrammed?

It's a Tuning Issue After driving around for a while with Torrie's programs loaded via my X3 box, I've found that the 6-speed tranny can indeed be programmed to cure factory stock shortcomings. I don't have any problems when coming to a stop, but Torrie's "Sport" (87 & 93) tunes give a...

    Looking for the Flasher relay

I've searched high and low for the LED-friendly relay, and was told by the last guy to make them that they aren't made any more. Buy the load resistors, and do the best you can with them.

    Amber Running board lights

I think it's definitely not my style. I don't want to do anything that even remotely resembles the Ricer look. But if it makes you happy...

for V8 - dual vs single exhaust ? headers ? high flow cats ?

So you do have a pre-2006 Sport Track, then. Correct? If so you might get better advice in the 2001-2005 Explorer Sport Trac forum. From what I've seen, the mods tend to move posts into the correct forum when they find them, but you don't need to wait for them to find yours. Let's...

Should I buy a'07 ex with 21k that just needed PCM/TCM reprogrammed?

Glad to hear it! I went over the various TSBs with my service manager, and he said he'd do an update, although he didn't think they applied to my particular situation. Meanwhile, I've gotten a custom tune loaded, and the problem is gone that way. Plus I have a few more ponies to boot! Yep...

for V8 - dual vs single exhaust ? headers ? high flow cats ?

Question I'm confused, your specs say that you're running a '97 5.0, but we're in the '07+ forum. Can you clarify what vehicle you're referring to? If it's a 5.0 with plenty of flow, then 2.5" pipes that far back should be no problem. But if it's a 4.6, especially the 2-valve version...

Re: Science and Math Well said! I also believe that we must be mindful of a larger audience, and to be true to them and the best version of the truth that we can muster, if we are to make progress as a group. Likewise, precise, topical and respectful language is the best vehicle to convey...

    OFF Road

What Little I Know You can get some things from Galls. It's mostly for emergency personnel, but the push bar they offer is better than none. And their center console kit gives you more switch positions and accessory mounts than you'll ever need. The Gen2's high-tech RSC program might not...

Kudos! IZwack, you sre my hero!!! I paid my dues, in cash and hours spent in boring engineering classes. I'm sick and tired of people with the gall to use aggression and BS to disrespect those of us who made the effort to learn the straight dope. Seeing you cut that jerk down to size made...

Is this travel trailer too much to tow???

Common Sense I have to say that manaen's post makes a lot of sense. There's nothing, and I mean NOTHING worth losing your life for. Choose a smaller, lighter trailer for the sake of you and your family. The risk just isn't worth it. Stay in-bounds; stay safe and live another day.

2010 Sport Trac has a stalling problem.

Under Warranty Since it's new, take full advantage of your factory warranty. I'll bet that a new ECU/PCU will make the problem go away, assuming that the battery and wiring are all OK. Welcome, and good luck!

    Sport Trac for 2011.

No and Yes The Taurus SHO used V-6 motors, and still does. The only exception to this was a brief period when a specially-made (by Yamaha) small V-8 was used. Don't expect this Cosworth/Yamaha one-off to return in a SUV or light truck. Not only was it expensive, it also had reliability...

for V8 - dual vs single exhaust ? headers ? high flow cats ?

Bravo! I took EE myself, but the first two years for every undergrad engineering student is the same. Ergo every trained engineer knows at least a little Fluids. In my case, I had to know some fluid dynamics since I was building PA systems. Many of our loudspeaker designs used lenses, horns...

Is this travel trailer too much to tow???

Specs The '07-'10 ST LTD V-8 comes from the factory with 3.55 gears. The GCWR of the '07-'10 ST LTD V-8 is 10,000 lbs. Net wet weight is ~4100 lbs. The Keystone 281BHS has a net weight of 5110 lbs., and a carrying capacity of 2405 lbs. That's a gross weight of 7515 lbs. My factory...

    Tranny Flush

Re: 6R Power Flush Nope, it has a bolt on pan just like every other automatic transmission that I've seen. AFAIK the dipstick tube is never used for flushing. I tried looking for the A/T cooling lines under the hood, and found a LOT of stuff blocking any view or access to them. So power...
