Rebuild diff again after 13k miles??

When I I ought the car the dealership rebuilt the differential for me since it was making the classic whining noise under load, loudest at 55-60 mph. The rebuild quieted it down nicely but now it is back only 13k miles later (about a year and a half). I've also had to do 3/4 bearings, brakes all...

    Rear Diff Advice Needed

I've read some of the threads on hear about the rear diff (actually how I diagnosed it originally), but I'm just surprised this only lasted ~7,000 miles. Is there a replacement rear diff that I could go with (locking?) that might be a little beefier? The noise is very audible to anyone in the...

    Rear Diff Advice Needed

Alright, so I'm about 9 months into owning my 2003 XLS. I just went over 80,000 miles on it. I purchased it with a little over 72,000 and right after buying it (less than 500 miles) I heard the infamous whine from rear end under load at about ~55-60 mph. I talked to the used car dealership and...

    First CB Radio Suggestion

The Cobra 75 looks pretty sweet, and the size is definitely a plus! I noticed that midland has a unit kinda similar...the Midland 75-822, but this unit also has a separate battery pack so you could use it as a handheld also, does anyone have any experience with this unit?

    First CB Radio Suggestion

I'm looking to get my first CB radio! I've decided it would be nice for roadtrips and maybe I can convince a few of my buddies to get them for hunting trips. Anyways, I've looked around a little bit and there are plenty of choices. I know I want to have the NOAA channels for weather, but beyond...

Replaced Front Wheel Hub Assembly, now it vibrates around corners?!?

THANK YOU!! That was all it needed, turned over the steering wheel 5-10 times in the driveway, took for a spin around the neighborhood and all is well! :-)

Replaced Front Wheel Hub Assembly, now it vibrates around corners?!?

I did move the steering while it was on the stands (better access to the bolts on the hub), are you saying that now I should turn the wheels side-to-side ~5 times while it's parked with the wheels on the ground?

Replaced Front Wheel Hub Assembly, now it vibrates around corners?!?

Alright, so this car has been a bit more of a project than I intended when buying a newer car, but I thought I had everything nipped in the butt tonight...but I thought wrong. So in owning it for a little over a month here is everything that was done: Rebuild rear diff, front passenger hub...

    Low Speed Whining/Whirring

I recently purchased a 2003 Explored XLS with 75k miles. I knew at the time of purchase it would need a wheel bearing (front left). After driving it for about a week, I heard a whining coming from the read differential. A little research on the forums (Thank you!) and I concluded it was likely...

How about this HU and Speakers?

Just looking to upgrade the basic stereo in my recently purchased 2003 XLS. I've looked around a bit, and these seem to be like a pretty good deal from what I can tell. I'm pretty new to all this stereo stuff. I'm just looking for reasonably priced upgrade. I wouldn't consider myself an...

    Audio newb needs some help

No, I'm not dead set on a double DIN, but just kinda figure if the space is there...why not use it?? What thread did you recently post on?

    Audio newb needs some help

I'm looking to upgrade from the basic sounds system in the '03 explorer I just bought. I would like to do a double DIN system and upgrade the speakers all around for now (a sub could be a possibility at a later time). I listen to a wide range of music, but I don't listen to my music loud enough...

    XLS Bumpers

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure I would call it a trail rig, but I do a fair amount of hunting and ice fishing (driving on the lakes) so it sees plenty of time off pavement. I think I am leaning towards the truck liner. Then doing a push bumper with some fog lights!

    XLS Bumpers

Just purchase my first Ex, so now the modding begins, got to put a little personal touch on it! Anyways, one of the things I want to address is the kinda boring bumpers. My Ex is red with the gray bumpers, they look a little goofy on the XLS model to me. I have considered doing a truck bed liner...

94 Jeep GC Wheels on 03 Explorer?

I have a 94 Jeep that I am replacing with a 2003 Explorer. The explorer is an XLS so it just doesn't have the alloy rims. According to the adaptitusa website from the sticky on this forum it appears that the tires have the same lug pattern and size. The center bore is slightly larger on the Jeep...

    XLS Wheels

So I just purchased a 2003 Explorer XLS (my first explorer!), anyways, it just has plastic "chrome" hub caps over the wheels, and I've already broken one of the holders for the snap clips. I am in process of saving for new wheels (and looking for some used ones), but I wanted to see if there was...
