    Sync update weirdness

I hooked up the battery tender just to make sure I didn't run the battery down while I was messing with it in accessory mode. It's the wife's vehicle and she makes mostly short runs in it so better safe than sorry.

    Sync update weirdness

Likely - but I've read the stories here on that and the extra step involved in reporting your current version back to Ford. It's something I'd do if we were having issues but we aren't so I'm not really solving any problems - just thought I'd give it a try. It's a 2022 model. I am behind on...

    Sync update weirdness

I decided to try to update SYNC tonight - haven't done it since we bought the Explorer two years ago. I have WiFi in the garage so I hook up a battery tender and get to work. Hmmm - it's already connected (I seem to vaguely recall we hooked it to the WiFi shortly after buying it) and auto...

Side to side "windy" swaying coming from the rear on high speeds

Listen to 94Eddie - I also replaced all my struts at around 130K and the Explorer tightened up considerably. No visual indication that they were bad - just an overall loose feeling while driving that drove me to do it. It drives like new now. Struts just don't last to 190K miles on a heavier...

    Where to mount tweeters?

Yeah - if it's got threads and a retaining ring in the back then it's not what I would call a surface mount. I'm not really familiar with those tweeters - I just did a lookup on Crutchfield and they mentioned a surface mount tweeter for that year. You might look around and see if anyone makes...

    Where to mount tweeters?

Is it a surface mount tweeter? If it is then you can drill a hole to get the wires through and leave the mounting tab intact.

    Underbody cover rattle

I only undid a few to get to the one I needed to work on but it seemed that the ones being held on by metal nuts were holding the cover against the frame. The plastic fastener like in my picture above held the cover away from the frame - they were also a spacer. When I tested with regular nuts...

    Underbody cover rattle

Our 22 Explorer had a rattle around the drivers side passenger door at around 65 and more. It's been there since it was new but I finally climbed under today to look. Found a loose plastic retainer that holds up the felt underbody cover. It wouldn't tighten so I took it out and replaced it...

A/C & Heat only coming out of defrost area of dash - 2008 explorer

This is what I did on my 07. Drilled a hole in the tab and used a tie wrap. All done through the hole created by removing the glove box. Progressively tighten the tie wrap so that it's got some slack in it and doesn't overextend. I have a movie of it working but don't see how to post it.

Ford Takes Most Recalled Manufacturer Crown For 2023

I have a 2022 and while there have been many recalls we've never had it back in for service for anything. Of course it's barely above 13K right now. We do have the 'one bolt' rear diff but it was already programmed to set the parking brake when we bought it. As for the cameras, it has the 360...

    2023 Explorer Timberline Rattle

Congrats - we have a 22 and have really enjoyed it so far. I hate to jinx myself but after close to two years it hasn't been back to the dealer for anything so far. Since it's a 23 I'm not sure if it's new or used? The tie rod and steering rack issue seem very odd for a new vehicle. If it's...

    2008 Explorer Bumper alignment

Interesting. I just looked at mine and I can see the bracket. Was your old one actually broken?

Blue light under dash drivers side

Interior lights issue most likely the ignition switch - look through this: Ignition Switch Not aware of any blue lights under the dash - likely something aftermarket. Did the previous owner add remote start?

    Fog light operation

It's there - I see it in your photo The light doesn't 'stand out' - the cover is smooth with the surrounding surface.

FORD EXPLORER OWNERS CAN NOW BUY THE TIMBERLINE’S SKID PLATE

FWIW - I have a Timberline so I already have the plate. As previously stated, oil changes can be messy. The oil drains fine, it's the filter that's the problem - it's not directly over the opening. On my last change, I dropped the first two rows of bolts from the front and let it hang down...

2010 Limited V8 Front end noise/hum driver side - stumped now after several attempted fixes.

So a little story. At around 96K I had a bearing noise. Sounded like it was coming from the front - but it didn't really change that much in a turn and it wasn't that loud really. After a bit, my steering wheel started shaking on the interstate between 70 and 75. I knew my front bearings were...

2010 Limited V8 Front end noise/hum driver side - stumped now after several attempted fixes.

Don't forget your rear bearings - at 145K they are due if they haven't been done before. As mentioned above, the way the sound travels in these vehicles can fool you. A noise in the rear like that can sound like it's coming from the front.

Ford 6R60 6R80 6 Speed Transmission Fluid and Filter Change

You definitely have to run it to get the proper amount of fluid in it - remember that it has to be running to check the fluid level for a reason. Your plan is sound. When you get that 6 quarts back in - drive it for a week and check it again while it's hot and adjust as needed. I assume you're...

Need help with my 2010 XLT

When you say the battery and the alternator are fine - what are you basing that on? 95% of the time when I have those symptoms I need a new battery.

    Had struts replaced today

By full strut assemblies I assume you are talking about quick struts - not a replacement cartridge. Keep us informed on how the Monroe's do - I did a lot of research and I didn't hear very good things about them. They seem to be the Fram oil filter of the strut world these days. I used the KYB...

    Had struts replaced today

I replaced all four a little over a year ago at just under 130K. I went with the KYB quick struts. None were leaking - visibly they appeared to be fine. Rocking the truck didn't really reveal any issues either. I just felt like the Ex had gotten sloppy. It had gotten harder to drive...

    Liftgate/Glass Ajar message

That's happened to me infrequently also over the years. Not consistent - totally random - maybe at most 10 times a year. Get in - start it up - and get the message. I've always assumed it was because the Ex was in the garage - I spend a lot of time working in the garage - and the keys are in...

    Handheld Multi-Purpose Pump Sprayer Converstion

It's easy to find gear oil in flexible pouches now - that's what I used on my front and rear diff and I didn't have any issues with access. It was a little slower than I would have liked but considering the time I saved by not having to clean a pump I probably came out ahead.

    HYPER DIP

Nice. I've done wheels before with PlastiDip and they look good but are hard to clean with the matte finish. I should have used glossifier but didn't know any better at the time. Is the Hyperdip harder and glossier?

Change for 2022 ST - RWD Standard

I hope they at least offer the option of the Torsen LSD like the Timberline has standard. That's a lot of torque for one tire.
