New owner from Kent - manuals etc ?

Where's the clock.... there isn't one. Just go on ebay by a £3 battery clock with a clip and put it on one of the vents. Cheapest and easiest solution. I went almost year without one, quite refreshing in someways not constantly knowing the time.

New owner from Kent - manuals etc ?

Welcome. Ebay tends to be the cheapest for some parts but not all. I have found it best to compare usual motorfactors and ebay. Alternatively there is Rockauto. You can get pretty much anything from them shipped to you door. The prices are very good for the parts but postage can become...

    Rear sag

Just to let anyone interested know. I got a full set of Monroe air adjust shocks and the 3rd stabiliser shock for less than £165 delivered to my door. Will hopefully fit this weekend.

    Brake shield/Splash Shield

Anyone know the part number for drivers side front brake shield/splash shield/brake backing plate? Or anyone who stocks them. Rockauto don't appear to stock them (unless someone can link me the item), all brakers I've asked have sold theirs, which leaves only ford genuine :(. Has anyone bought...

    Rear sag

Thanks I'll try this today. The springs look pretty flat when I look underneath but fingers crossed. Do you know a good place for load adjust shocks in the uk? Ford want something like £500 for the 3 rear set. It's about £180 iirc for a set of monroe from rock auto, which I'll probably order today.

    Rear sag

Thanks for your suggestion but I'd rather not push my luck. I have feeling the way my luck goes, it would cause something to break almost instantly.

    Rear sag

As my explorer has just passed MOT with no advisories I feel the need to fiddle with it some more. My explorer like many I assume, sits a little lower at the rear than the front. Has anyone added two used lower leafs from an old explorer to raiser their rear up a bit. If so did it work ok or...

    Underbody corrosion / protection

The best thing you can do is get it back to bare metal as best you can. Use something like a rust reformer, phosphoric acid etc. Then use a good quality rust inhibiting primer like bondaprimer. Then top coat with something. I'm going to use bondaprimer and tractol chassis paint on mine. But...

    BP, Shell etc premium fuels

Thanks ihpj for your input, I'll try tesco then. Even if I only get 1 mpg benefit that will be worth it. Then cost difference will hardly break the bank after all only £3 extra compared to the £95+ it will cost anyway. Shall see if it makes any difference on my 800mile road trip.

When you say marginal difference what do you mean? Increased mpg or a bit more responsive?

    DIY rear diff fill plug

    Ok thanks for the tip.

    DIY rear diff fill plug

I've managed to get the fill plug out. Luckily there was enough socket hole left. I did nothing different today than before, it just worked today. That fact alone makes it even more frustrating. Anyway managed it in the end without drilling, welding etc. Also managed the fuel filter too...

    DIY rear diff fill plug

It's a 3/8 socket hole. No ability to weld. I'll keep trying with the heat maybe I didn't use enough. Not sure there is enough of the socket left now though. Hammering anything in or on is difficult as I don't have access to a vehicle lift and due to it's position makes it very difficult to get...

    DIY rear diff fill plug

I have rounded off my fill plug for my rear diff. It has obviously never been removed and it probably never going to come out now. After reading on here I have a number of options. 1. Drill the plug try use an easy out extractor and hopefully get it out that way. 2. Buy a new diff cover with...

    BP, Shell etc premium fuels

There must be someone else on here that has at least tried premium petrol? Can't be only one driver of an explorer that has tried. Any way I'm going to try Sainsburys super as it is only 3p more expensive than normal bp. The purpose made tool for fuel filter change has arrived will try again...

    BP, Shell etc premium fuels

I found the same with a mondeo diesel, Shell or bp certainly improved noise and economy. I may try a couple of tanks of premium stuff to see if it makes a difference. When I eventually manage to change my fuel filter that is. Tried for quite some time today with a bit of silicon gun nozzle but...

    BP, Shell etc premium fuels

Morning Does anyone run premium petrol in their explorer and notice any difference? If it gained 0.5 or 1 mpg then the extra cost would be worth it. Does anyone just run a tank of the expensive stuff now and again to help 'clean' the engine? Anyone have success or failure with fuel system...

    Hello everyone :-)

I've got an lpg converted ex and I get the equivalent of 30 ish mpg on my short 10 mile commute on b-roads. That is better than my old volvo 840, so running costs don't have to be that high. I think it depends on you annual mileage. As for age, I am slowly replacing most bits on mine as they a...
