Just to let anyone interested know. I got a full set of Monroe air adjust shocks and the 3rd stabiliser shock for less than £165 delivered to my door. Will hopefully fit this weekend.

The best thing you can do is get it back to bare metal as best you can. Use something like a rust reformer, phosphoric acid etc. Then use a good quality rust inhibiting primer like bondaprimer. Then top coat with something. I'm going to use bondaprimer and tractol chassis paint on mine. But...

Thanks ihpj for your input, I'll try tesco then. Even if I only get 1 mpg benefit that will be worth it. Then cost difference will hardly break the bank after all only £3 extra compared to the £95+ it will cost anyway. Shall see if it makes any difference on my 800mile road trip.

I've managed to get the fill plug out. Luckily there was enough socket hole left. I did nothing different today than before, it just worked today. That fact alone makes it even more frustrating. Anyway managed it in the end without drilling, welding etc. Also managed the fuel filter too...
