I get a thump on my 99 explorer. Same thing. Pads rotors and parking brake all new. When I release the brake from a stop and start rolling forward that is when it thumps.. developed a squeal as well when braking. Everything was new. Need to take it back and warranty their work..

So through some messing around with some help and long screwdrivers.. It was pretty much confirmed to be my catalytic converter... Might be a baffle or some loose things inside...

The biggest thing to know is do I need to do anything before removing the column covers just to avoid an accidental air bag deployment :/

So before I even read the reply I thought to try tilting it all the way up incase a wire somehow got pinched. My last post explains that it still did the solid light no blinking noise thing only this time there was no smoke

Pulled the mass airflow sensor housing and blasted the crap out of it with brake cleaner and left it out in the sun for a couple hours to dry up before putting it back together. Took away my p0171&p0174 error codes and my idle has been better. Been three months with no problems :D
