My fill plug was rusted and stripped to a perfect circle. I was going to get a new cover (you can get them for $17.00 with filler plug and the come with a gasket, so the net cost is $10.00) but instead I used a hand pump and refilled by putting the hose on the breather nipple and pumped away.
