2013 to 2019 Upper Strut Mount - Does not turn freely, normal?

I spoke to Bilstein Tech Support, sent pics and was told the gap on their strut is within engineering specifications. If I thread on their nylock nut snug, it will make contact with the main shaft and will actually fully seat when tightened to specifications. As for the OEM strut & associated...

2013 to 2019 Upper Strut Mount - Does not turn freely, normal?

Just a quick update...the strut mounts have no ball bearings (at least I did not see any) and are actually 2 plastic sleeves filled with what I assume to be silicone grease in between gliding on each other. Part numbers are different though I see no visual differences between the 2015 and 2019...

2013 to 2019 Upper Strut Mount - Does not turn freely, normal?

I re-used the old strut mounts, they were still good to go. Of course soon as the noise happened, I bought new ones from Ford, just in case. It is after the fact and honestly should've followed best practice and replaced the top hats regardless of condition. However I did notice that the new...

2013 to 2019 Upper Strut Mount - Does not turn freely, normal?

Hey Everyone, Swapped out the dampeners (Bilstein & KYB) and springs (H&R) on our 15 Ex Sport a couple of weeks ago. Went pretty smooth...or so I thought. One of the things I noticed was that when torquing the 4 upper strut mount nuts to 41 ft/lbs, the upper mount (aka top hat) will not rotate...

15 Sport Rough Idle/Shudder On Cold Start

Seems we have an idle / shudder issue with our truck @ start up. This has happened recently, within the last 2 or 3 fuel fills. I only use top tiered 91 octane from either 76 or Shell. Mostly occurs on cold starts or when the truck has cooled down quite a bit. I've searched the forums and found...

    Wife hears a rattle...

We also get a rattle out of the rear left passenger side area as well. Not sure if it is from the 2nd or 3rd row seat area. I can't pinpoint it. I thought at first it was the seat belts rubbing but latching them all did not stop the rattle.

Bad or Burnt Exhaust smell in cabin during hard acceleration.

I'm very happy to report that since I adjusted (alignment was off-center) the lift-gate, there is no longer any incidence of sulfur smell entering the cabin. Adjustment of the entire lift-gate is rather simple and can be done rather quickly. Just remove the struts off the liftgate itself...

    Rearview Camera Active Guidelines

As far as APA @ the very least being required to have active guidelines isn't exactly 100% correct. Same goes for other sensors and what not. My base GT has zero of any technology "requirements" to have the active guidelines enabled hence why some folks may be thinking its all software...

    Rearview Camera Active Guidelines

Yeah wished our Sport had it...hell even my base 2015 GT has active guidelines.

Bad or Burnt Exhaust smell in cabin during hard acceleration.

Curious if the rear liftgate being slightly misaligned would have anything to do with the sulfur smell inside the cab. Our 15 EXSport has 1900 miles and the smell is intermittent; it does not happen every spirited driving. I just noticed yesterday that the entire liftgate gap on the drivers...

If you didn't buy the 11-16 explorer, then what?

We came from another Ford, a 2007 Ford EDGE SEL AWD. Other than the leaking PTU seal (TSB fixed by our dealership) & body panel issues, (dealership botched the repair attempt on the rear bumper so we never bothered to try and correct the rest) she was a damn good truck. Only regret on that...

Bad or Burnt Exhaust smell in cabin during hard acceleration.

Hi Tricia, thank you for reaching out. At this time, I will wait and see if the smell stops completely as we are still breaking in the truck. As I mentioned above, it does not happen that often. If it gets any worse, I will surely let you know. Sadly, I am quite familiar with the escalation...

Bad or Burnt Exhaust smell in cabin during hard acceleration.

On our 2015 EXSport with 640 miles, I am getting a slight whiff of sulfur smell when doing some spirited acceleration. It happens regardless if the AC is on or not. Looks like whatever has been plaguing this body style has not been fixed. Build date on our Sport is 4/27/2015. Not too keen on...

RX Performance catch can for Explorer Sport

Apologies guys for probably a newbie question...also hope I'm posting this on the proper forum. :chug: Just picked up a 2015 Ingot Silver Sport last Sunday. What other options are available for a catch can? I noticed JLT makes one but read comments on a vendor site JLT could only confirm...

Hello...new guy from the High Desert, SoCal.

Hey Everyone, I've been a Blue Oval faithful since 1998 but first time being interested in a Explorer; specifically, the Sport model. My late parents used to own an 1997 Explorer Sport Trac. So driving it was the closest I ever got to one. Also owned a 2001 F-150 along with several previous...
