I've noticed that heavy rain tends to "confuse" (for lack of a better word) my auto 4x4 also.In all other conditions it seems to work fine.I don't worry about it too much although I have wondered just how much of the time it stays locked in when it's really wet pavement.

Did you try opening each door one by one with the engine running?The ones that are OK should make the ding sound when they are opened,the one that is ajar will not make the ding sound when it is opened.It doesn't always work out but you may be able to find it that way.

The security module on a 02 mounty is in the same spot but maybe they changed it by 04.

Sounds like it's the starter Bendix hanging up on you.You might pull the starter off and see if the gear spins freely on the drive it might just need cleaned and lubed.

I think the "drive by wire" didn't start until the 04' models. Maybe you have a plug wire(or two) crapping out on you under a pull.

I have it on my 02 Eddie but the rural stations here don't display the song/artist.They show the name of the station and scroll some news headlines.Since I listen mostly to my XM I get song/artist though. :)

If it has the DATC you should have the Blower Motor Speed Controller behind the glovebox on the left side I believe.I think the resistor is there also.I haven't been into mine but I think I seen it in a picture I was looking at awhile back.

Is your door ajar light on when this happens?Alot of people here are having issues with the drivers door switch which shows door ajar,and it shows the same symptoms you describe.
