    Oddball surge stall sputter

Ok, I still have not repaired the trouble. It ran during the winter without much of any issue. It has a stumble below 1500 but nothing that letting off the throttle won't stop. Now that Florida has warmed up, the truck is running like poo again. Strange in that cold temps the truck ran almost...

    99 OHV 4.0L Bearing Clatter at start-up??

That oil pressure is too high, better recheck with a different gauge. It it is truly that high (PSI) the bearings have likely been washed out and will need rod/main bearing replacement. I can't see it being that high. Worn rod bearings will also cause the noise you hear since they will allow oil...

    Oddball surge stall sputter

Ok, this started back in early September. I started my 95 4.0 ohv and heard a "frap frap" like one would hear with very worn rod bearings. The engine ran fine, no issues. I moved it from the driveway to the side yard and shut it off. Next day I went to drive it and it would start, run to...

Helpful thread, for squeak, squeal, chirp noise from V8 and OHV v6 engine compartment

Yeah, guess I have something to add to the pile of stuff to do to the truck. I have changed one before in my wife's old explorer 5.0L. I dunno if the OHV is easier than the 5.0 but it was pretty simple for me.

Helpful thread, for squeak, squeal, chirp noise from V8 and OHV v6 engine compartment

Ok, here is a weird one that might be the cam P sensor. My 95 OHV 4.0 has a chirping noise when driving down the road BUT it's only when the temps fall down below 60 degrees outside. Like in the AM when it's colder it chirps all the way to work but in the afternoon it does not make a peep. I had...

    Air Bag Help

If the airbag light it on it's telling you the system has a problem and is disabled. That said the bags should not deploy. Wiring to the sensor on the hit side was likely damaged causing a short and the module has disabled itself. The module has a G-force meter in it that will deploy the bags...

Speedo works but odometer doesn't? I fixed mine..

I did a little search on the internet and came across this thread while looking for worm gears for my explorer speedo. I bought an entire cluster from a LKQ U-pull it junkyard today to fix mine that was not working. I installled the replacement used cluster and low and behold the odometer was...

    P0340 Cam Sensor code .

Did the damage come with a chirping ticking noise ? My wife's did the same thing damage wise but the bearing(s) on the stalk of the CPS had failed . The sensor received the damage from the up/side motions of the shaft . Saldy , her 1996 5.0 XLT is no more . She rolled the truck over and it's...

Ford Ranger problem , P0301 Cyl 1 Missfire

Ok , Start off the truck is not mine it's my buddies . He asked me to look at it because it was missing and running bad when he stopped at a light . I found a vacuum hose under the intake (2.3L) broken so we replaced the hoses . One of the intake bolts was loose and stripped out so we decided...

    P0340 Cam Sensor code .

Disconnected the alternator , code still sets . I checked with my fluke and have a 12v+ , 2.18v+ , and a good ground on the connector leading to the sensor . The 2.18 was the center terminal , with the sensor wiring disconnected .

    P0340 Cam Sensor code .

My wife's 96 5.0L is popping a P0304 Cam sensor signal . The syncronizer/sensor is about 7 months old so I doubt it to be the issue . The old one failed and went to chirping . I pulled the sensor off the syncronizer tonight and checked . All of the parts are there and the wires are attached...

c1141 C1141 Wheel Speed Sensor LF Tone Ring Tooth Missing Fault

Ok , Anybody had experience with this one ? Im assuming the LF wheel sensor is toast cause I doubt the wheel is missing a tooth . This is NOT a explorer , it's a Windstar Van but the codes are all Ford related to the same as explorers . Thanks if you got info .

    antifreeze leak

My 95 Sport was leaking antifreeze in a slow rate . It would be low in a week or so without visable evidence . I finally was checking around and found crusted anitfreeze on the heater control valve . The valve itself was leaking and dripping down onto the exhaust manifold and burning up ...

My 2 Explorers : 1995 4.0L 146,000 Miles . Replaced ABS module with used one from Ebay for $50 . 1996 5.0L 183,000 miles . Replaced the belt tensioner , rear brakes , exhaust manifold/header for pass side , lower ball joints , tie rod ends , U joints . Those repairs have been over the...

    Belt sqeaking on 2000 5.0

Wife's 5.0 started the same squeak as you describe ..... did Ford design them to have a fail on date ? I replaced the tensioner and the upper idler pulley . Did not know the lower idler was there till I replaced the parts . Spent about a hour total with swapping the parts . I replaced the...

My life is not worth living anymore!

I smell trolling :) All things aside , look up the blue book value of your Honda VS the Explorer . 2nd thing , my little sport with it's 4.0L has smoked many a Honda . 3rd thing , Explorers wernt built by a nation that dropped bombs on servicemen in Pearl Harbor . Wipe the tears...

    I have killed my 5-speed

For sure it's the bearing between the input shaft and the main shaft . Common problem for T5's that are run low on fluid also . Likely it wiped out the main shaft and the inside of the input shaft from galling . A buddy of mine had a 94 ranger 5 speed he ran that was whining for a good 20,000...

Broken Header , Pass side .... what options ?

Bought a header from the local auto parts store for $197 plus tax . Problem is it has a port for the EGR I need to plug . Anybody know what size the cap for it is and if you used pipe thread , NFOS , JIC , Etc ? Im sure I could rig something or maybe even nuke the hole shut with my mig if...

Broken Header , Pass side .... what options ?

The only ones I saw on ebay were the 98 and up versions . Your saying they will bolt in directly to my Y pipe without modifying it ?

Broken Header , Pass side .... what options ?

Ok, This is the 5.0L's right side header , factory 1996 . It had been leaking for some time off and on , and I thought it was the gasket . Today I went to change the gasket and the front 2 ports of the header fell loose from the back half so obviously it's broken in half . Now , I personally...

    Lower Ball Joints

Just found my next project for BOTH my explorers .... I checked the wife's earlier today because she picked up a vibration in the front and the tire on the LF is worn down to the steel belt in one spot . The tire is about a year old  ....... I think it may have slipped a belt . If not the...

Upper Control Arms (for the seriously dropped)

Were the a-arm from the ranger side specific ? Could they be swapped from one side ? If they are side specific , it in theory would rotate the caster the other direction if sides were swapped . Of course if the joint was centered in the arm and both are the same bar side-by-side then my post is...

    gas pedal sticking?

Clean the throttle body . Both my 5.0 and my 4.0 explorers have gotten sticky . They pile carbon up on the throttle body walls surrounding the throttle plate and iy makes it stick closed . Mine were worst in the mornign when first fired up , you'd have to push the pedal pretty good and it would...

    Whining

Well to be honest the next owner was likely a buy-here-pay-here or a junk yard . The body was good but he had around 200,000 on the entire truck :) Gotta love Fords ... unlike Chevy stuff that is dead and gone too early /.
