    Welcome to the site! Sounds like you have two seperate problems there. Idle problem sounds like IAC...not sure on the electrical burning smell. Could be the alt itself.

    Here's from an earlier post from Diff Whack Daddy-- "There is actually a fuse in the fuse box that controls the voltage regulator attatched to the alternator. If that fuse blows, it won't work. It's in the fuse box under the hood and on a 93-94 it's one of the little tiny ones. I am not sure...

    High RPMs on Startup?

    Your fast idle is supposed to kick on when first started cold, then gradually level off. Usually any idle problems...too low or too fast are directly related to the IAC valve. Cleaning it works, replacing it is better...it's a $60-75 part.

    Ok guys, just did a quick tranny fluid exchange to see what would happen.... shifts just fine now....that was the worst tranny fluid I have ever seen. We'll be doing a filter and fluid change real soon.

    Well, I have a 94 F150 that had a similar problem--would wind out in first gear, slam into second and work fine through other gears, act like the tranny didn't want to shift, and seemed like it was in neutral sometimes. Was a bad TPS. Of course, that was an E4OD tranny. Thanks for the input...

    So true, Cybergasm. Since I haven't had a chance to get dirty yet, it should be interesting. PO said he parked it 3 years ago because of this, so who knows. Will keep you updated...

    tps voltage wayyyy to low wtf?

    Looks like it. Not sure on the Explorers, but on the F150's, you want to see a minimum WOT value of 3.2 vdc and not higher than actual voltage reference (VREF) generated by the ECM. I assume the Explorers are the same...worth a change.
