Hi everyone,
basically the problem i've been having lately with my 01 sport trac is that in the morning sometimes it wont start.... it wants to crank over but just dies. this morning i gave it gas and kept my foot on the gas for a while thinking it might be a cold issue but as soon as i let my foot off it dies. so being the genius that i am i decide to drive it that way and as soon as i hit a stop sign it died on me....no power steering nothing just lights. at any rate i made it home took a shower and went out there and it started fine......a lot of threads suggest it might be the iac or fuel filter? any ideas on what it might be? i think it might be a clog in the injectors but im not really sure, plus that is some cash to change out.
also for the past couple of weeks the oil gauge says it has no pressure then after about a quarter mile of driving it jumps back to normal, and it only happens when the truck is sitting outside in the cold -about 50 degrees or less. is it a bad pump? relay?
any help would be great since i need this truck to get to work
thanks

I have the same problem with the oil gage. What would cause that? It does not put out a reading and suddenly jumps into place once the vehicle has been driven around a bit.

Probably a bad sending unit. Check the wiring for damage, if you don't see any problem, then I would try a new sending unit.

Would you happen to have a link to the part online. I am having difficulty locating it. Any idea where I can find the wiring diagram online for free as well?

I don't what year truck you have, but you may be able to download the ISO image for the factory manual here .

I was able to find the oil pressure sender at fastpartsnetwork.com (a site sponsor and a great source for Ford parts). You should also be able to get it from the local dealer or most auto parts stores.

for the oil pressure problem, what was wrong with mine it was an oil pressure switch/sending unit. in my 01 sport trac its located on the driver side on the engine block.....its kind of a pain to see but if you get the part first it will make it much easier to find. the way i took it out was to first disconnect the the electrical plug in and take a deep socket and slowly crank it off since there isnt much space in that area of the engine to move around.....and for my original post with the bad startup in the morning that was fixxed with just cleaning out the iac and throttle body.
thanks

replacing oil sending unit

As long as you have SOHC it is better to get the unit from under the vehicle. I did it this way and it works. It could be also bad connection. I cleaned my unit and wire clip. done.

How were you able to disconnect the electrical plug? Seems impossible to get to the plug with your hands...

As for the idle, there might be a base idle screw in the throttle linkage. You can use that TEMPORARILY to bump up idle speed. Have a look on the throttle body and bump it up til it stays running.
