cardumb, Ford only needed 1 speaker per door for a stock system
I persionally think Infinity speakers sound like crap, they "brighten" the sound and do not give you a good representationof what the music should sound like, but hey thats just me they seem to be the most popular speaker at the car audio places these days. I installed some Diamond audio 5x7's in my front doors to replace smoe cheapo Audiobahns that were in there, wow what a difference! stock speakers will not handle the power your amp is making, they will hardly handle the power that the stock system gives them, plus yours are OLD, age kills most speakers... I plan to add Diamond audio 6" components up front and in the rear doors in addition to my 4ea 5x7's, taking the entire system down to 2 ohms with 3ea 10" woofers.... cutting a hole in the door panel and/or making some simple wood spacers/adapters to fit them is not a big issue and should be considered a normal part of this install IMO Even high end coaxials or components do not cost a ton more then $30 to make, but you have to pay for the name on them to get better sound. Even a cheapo speaker can be made to sound decent given the proper RMS from the amp and a good clean signal to start with, but it seems higher dollar speakers like Boston, Eclipse, etc will outlast and handle more power. I am super impressed with the Diamond audio line if you couldn't tell.... With audio you are only as good as your weakest link, a cheap head unit, cheap RCA cables, light duty speakers....etc can kill an otherwise good system.... __________________ 96 Explorer daily driver build-1996 XLT 5.0L AWD to 4x4 conversion complete on 33's 88 BII 5.0L conversion - BII 5.0l drivetrain thread My Bronco II - 1988 Bronco II 4x4 V8 on 35's - registry and updates Wifes 07 FJ build - 2007 FJ cruiser locked and lifted |

For now, I simply cannot BUY good speakers. I JUST bought my ex (two weeks ago) and its got some work that needs to be done. I need to fix my horn (the actual horn works...so that sucks...new wiring) Cruise control doesn't work Back power windows dont go up Some sort of exterior panel on the left rear is cracked...gotto buy that. Really should buy some performance shit for my engine so i get better gas milage. -- As soon as I have money to spare, I'll take your advice into consideration ![]() Thanks. |

The premium JBL ford speakers in the doors are 2 ways with a mid bass and tweeter separate. Looks like a four inch maybe? Still get old like any other factory speaker. The woofer in the back is paper like a normal speaker. Nothing great. I think it's a 6 inch. To add the speaker grill, you mark the panel from the inside, Cut it from the inside and then mount the grill.

Make sure you dont get gold plated cables for it if you do upgrade any further, i dont know how many people buy gold plated, weres the difference in gold plated verses regular cable?

There is no difference in gold plated, because the wire is still copper thus defeating the purpose.

Yeah, ive been told by a broadcasting technician (in the buisness since 1987 i think) that gold plated makes absolutely no difference, just another gimmik. Not only is the wire copper or steel, but inside almost every piece of audio equiptment is steel soldered to steel, and above that theres almost always steel connectors in them anyways.

dopler...I'm not proposing that my speakers are AMAZING..I'm just saying that they're enough for now and that I don't want to spend more money on audio for now...

Yeah i pointed that it out that it was pointless there... and the fact its a gimmik, unless of course your agreeing, i dont know, just making sure you got what i was saying right
. Normal connectors already have enough bandwidth for it, i can see your point about shielded though, bit harder to find just regular shielded instead of gold plated..
