Lights on the roof
I need some help, I have a Bauer Vehicle Gear roof rack on my X and i am thinking about getting a light kit for it so i can mount a couple lights on top. I was wondering if any one that has done this could give me some tips on doing it, or if there is a thread point me to it. by the way i have a 98 XLT. I was thinking about two driving lights in the front wired to a switch on the left of the stearing wheel. and two flod lights on the back wired to my reverse lights

I have two lights that are Hella work lights on my roof rack that are on the back. But I have them on a seperate switch. So not to blind the person behind me. But if I'm on trail, then thats different or I just want to light up the back of the bed and the surrounding area. Then I have the normal back-up lights that come on in reverse. Are you sure you want them to come on every time you are in reverse, I sure would not want to be behind you, unless there some kind of directional beam, but you did say flood light. Good idea to use the right wiring harness with relays and fuses also.

how did you run the wires up to the lights? and the lights are going to be a fog light. I want the lights to come on when i am in reverse because the stock lights just dont do it for me and i park in a very dim area and there are a lot of cars and i dont want to hit anybody, plus the lights will only be on when i am in reverse so i dont think i will blind anyone.

i also have reverse lights on my rack, but i put them on a seperate switch, but if you wanted them to come on with the stockers just wire them into the reverse lights in the tail lights. as far as running the wires mine go from the switches in the dash to the floor and under the trim all the way to the back and then up the back under the trip and then out and under the weather stripping onto the roof.

no need to drill into your roof. I have a set of lights on my roof rack. I ran my wires along the inside of the roof rack rails and down through the rear hatch, between the weather stripping. Hooked to the relays mounted just a head of the factory jack location. I ran a 4 guage power to an aftermerket fuse block. It has been working great for over 2 years.
