maybe a dumb question

i just got a new set of rockford punch 6x9 and was going to put them in the door but they dont fit of course. i have an 02 xls and was wondering if i build a small box for them should it be sealed or should i have a small port on it. thanks in advance for the help.

You can build a small box and port it but I would model the bass response...I'd rather just build some sealed enclosures...you aren't going to get tons of bass from them anyways.

Rockford will give you proper enclosure specs for those. You may get lucky and some of the cheap prefabs will work.

am i the only one that notices something....he said 6x9s..meaning door speakers not subs

if you want to do a box for the speaker..just make a regular sealed box. I've personally never heard of making a ported box for regular speakers

walmart sells some cheap boxes for 6x9's, or at least they used to. can you return them and get a 6x8 instead? how much work would it take to make them fit? i'd imagine some cutting is all.

You can use a piece of plywood to mount the 6x9's in your door. Just use 3/4 inch hardwood, and make a ring an inch wide.

I've heard of ported 6x9s.

Its like any other full range cabinet that is ported.

I have some ported three way towers for my home stereo.

Ditto, here. My buddy had a pair of Pioneer Triax 6x9's in his car, and they actually sounded real good. We used them as a PA stype setup where he'd turn them around and fire out the open hatch. Made for good music while gathered in the woods

My initial response would be to tell you to ditch the 6x9s for some 5x7s or a component set. If you're looking for bass go with some real subs.

But if your mind is set on using those 6x9s, see if you can find recommended enclosure specs from Rockford.
