well im considering buying an explorer to off road / use as an every day turkc but how dependible r these rigs in the woods can they really handle what is thrwon at them or do they break easily ....also what year should i be looking for and model 2 door 4 door exc.....

If you're going to want a serious offroader, I'd go with a 2 door version, or Sport version as we call it. That way the distance between the front adn rear tires is shorter, and you can climb more without worrying about underbody damage.

they are VERY reliable is taken care of right. you can find a bunch of people with over 250k miles on their explorers, and they're still going.

But go for a 4x4, V6-SOHC or V8 (if possible), 2 door version, My two cents.
