CB Noisy

Hi all,

I just bought a CB & Antenna, I wired the CB to the power in the auxiliary cig lighter and got WAY too much noise. So I wired it directly to the battery and I still get an unacceptable amount of noise. The antenna is on the roof, close to the driver side window.

I was inspecting the cable/wiring and found a small tear in the coax cable near the antenna, it's not very big, and only deep enough to reach the shielding. Would this tear be the cause of my noise?

Thanks!

I don't think it's a problem with the cut in the coax. You can try rerouting your wires, but it could just be that your alternator is noisy. Eliminating noise can be tricky.

My CB kinda works now
I get a lot of "static" whether the X is on or not. I definatly get an alternator whine, but I can live with that.

I picked up a conversation this morning on my way to work, but it was pretty difficult to hear. I want to upgrade my antenna, so I bought a mount to fit between the hood & fender:

I can't seem to figure out though--do I need to get a special 'No Ground Plane' antenna for this mount?

Thanks for any help!

One more odd thing I forgot to mention:

I've got the Brown Wire Mod installed, and the way mine works is a little backwards--the switch light is "on" when the switch is set to allow Control-Trac, so most of the time it is illuminated. When the X is turned off, there is no light.

To get to the point--Yesterday I was messing with the CB with the X off, and I noticed that ever time I keyed the mic, the BWM switch would light up very dimly. I can't think of any reason it should do this. Any ideas?

Sorry if that's confusing ^^

Just thought I'd update this in case someone else runs across this thread with similar Q's.

After testing, this didn't seem to make a noticable effect. What DID help, but not completely solve this, is getting my antenna properly SWR calibrated.

Found the answer: No.

Haven't been able to recreate this since installing the new 48" Antenna on the front fender...Weird ground loop problem with the old antenna maybe?

Talk to us about the Ground Loop with the old antenna and the front fender mounted antenna ?

In theoretical frequency heaven two antenna are suppose to be 1/2 wave length apart not to RF couple; in CB frequency that would be 18 feet, not possible in most vehicle.
